Apple.com showing changes

Our eagle-eyed readers are spotting subtle changes to Apple.com starting with a gray navigational bar across the top of the page -- which wasn't rendering properly with the iPad at first. There are also bits of animation to other parts of the site, including the Mac page. The core part of the site appears to be the same.

When viewing the page on the iPad, the names on the buttons are missing. The animation on the sub-sites also did not work correctly. The animation loads when you open the Mac page, but it did not work when clicking on "Accessories" or other parts of the bar. Clicking on the icons within the animation itself, such as the Mac mini or MacBook icons, did not work either.

Let's hope that someone is up working overtime at Apple tonight to make the site iPad compatible once more!

Edit (2:40 AM): The animation has been repaired, but the buttons are still lacking text on the iPad.

I like how the tabs all shrink to allow the search bar to expand when you click on that.

I just took a look at the Apple website in Safari on the iMac, and noticed the words for the buttons are actually showing up, but below the bar! It looks like they may not be done "tweaking" yet..

Awful. The animations remind me of my first experiments with prefab jQuery easing stuff.... easeOutElastic ... 'fly-In' animations... stuff websites that are 'made by nephews' are made of!

Besides that, sometimes the menu is off, labels below the bar and stuff. The animations flicker in chrome as well.

Oh and the loading spinner ... what's up with that? looks like 1994 gif.

The chrome apple, which never really worked visually for me, has changed. Looks more like a flat glass or mirror revealed behind an apple cutout. I like it.

Ok call me crazy if you want but what if this is all hints at something new. I am hoping to see an update to the macbook line announced at macworld. Maybe this all hints at a new dark macbook. One colored much like the new apple tv. I don't know about anyone else but I would go for a black aluminum macbook pro in a second.

me too .. but I would think it is more about the look and feel of the OS rather than the hardware.

And I still hope they release new MBPs .. hey Apple it is embarrassing that the freaking Air has a much better screen than the Pro line .. really?

Apple doesn't do MacWorld announcements as of last year. You should never expect one at this point. They don't even attend the event.

Apple tends to do one release at a time. Right now they a focused on the Verizon iPhone. Couple of weeks after that we might see something else but the iPad is the more likely. New computers, especially laptops is more something for the start of their summer 'back to school' promo. Then perhaps a new iphone in June/july which will carry them until the fall new ipods

Originally they had Aqua buttons.

Then they went with Leopard-style graphite buttons

Now they're going with Lion-style black buttons.

Interesting.

I agree with you. I think they made this change because you are going to see a lot of GUI elements start to move to the marble look.
