Apple unveiled iOS 26 and iPadOS 26 at WWDC 2025, showcasing a new Liquid Glass design that refreshes home screens and system menus. Moreover, the update expands Apple Music playlists, enhances Maps routing, and revamps Wallet aesthetics. In addition, Apple introduced a dedicated Games app, a faster Camera interface, and live translation in Messages—features aimed at boosting daily productivity and fun.
iPhone models that qualify
Only select models will support iOS 26. Owners of the iPhone XS, XS Max, and XR must stay on iOS 18.x. By contrast, every iPhone from the 11 series onward meets the requirements. For example, the lineup includes the iPhone 11, 12 mini, and 12 series; the 13 mini and 13 family; and all 14 and 15 variants. In addition, the entire iPhone 16 family plus any iPhone SE since its second generation will work with the new release.

iPad models that qualify
Most modern iPads gain iPadOS 26. Apple dropped support only for the 7th-generation iPad, keeping all others in play. Supported devices include the 5th-generation and later iPad mini, A17 Pro iPad mini, 8th-generation iPad and above, A16 iPad, M2 iPad Air, and both M4 and earlier Apple Silicon iPad Pro models (11-inch and 12.9-inch).
How to prepare for the fall release
Users should back up their devices and ensure they have at least 5 GB of free storage before installing the update. Next, charge the battery above 50% or connect to power. Finally, check Settings > General > Software Update once iOS 26 and iPadOS 26 go live this September. By doing so, supported iPhones and iPads will seamlessly adopt the new features.
