Apple released its first developer betas for the ‘26 generation’ OS updates on June 9. They include iOS 26, iPadOS 26, macOS 26, watchOS 26, tvOS 26 and visionOS 26.

Build numbers and available platforms

The initial iOS 26 and iPadOS 26 betas carry build number 23A5260n. Meanwhile, macOS 26 “Tahoe” debuts as build 25A5279m. The first watchOS 26 beta uses 23R5280m and the opening tvOS 26 beta is 23J5279m. Finally, visionOS 26 arrives as build 23M5263m.

Testing warnings

Apple advises against installing these early betas on primary devices. Instead, developers should use secondary hardware and maintain current backups. Failure to do so could lead to data loss or system instability.

Next steps for developers

Apple plans to release public betas in July once initial issues are resolved. The final versions typically follow in September. Developers can submit feedback through official channels to help refine each OS before the public launch.

Why developers should care

Early access gives developers time to update their apps for new APIs and features. Moreover, it ensures compatibility and performance when the full OS rollout arrives. Consequently, apps will be ready on day one of the official release.
