With its June 2025 developer beta, iOS 26 adds ChatGPT-powered filters to the built-in Image Playground app. As a result, users can now apply more dynamic art styles directly within the systemwide tool. Previously limited to three on-device modes, Image Playground gains deeper creativity by tapping OpenAI’s models.

Five New ChatGPT Styles

The update delivers five fresh image modes—Animation, Illustration, Sketch, Vector, and Watercolor—each powered by ChatGPT. Moreover, the new “Any Style” option accepts free-form text prompts, letting people mimic famous artists or invent wholly new aesthetics. Consequently, users can generate bespoke event posters, social media graphics, or marketing assets without switching apps.

Genmoji Gets Smarter

Notably, Genmoji also received a significant upgrade. In addition to blending multiple emojis into a single AI creation, iOS 26 lets users fine-tune facial expressions, hairstyles, glasses, and facial hair via simple controls. Furthermore, text-based descriptors can refine a Genmoji’s look on the fly. Thus, people can craft truly personalized avatars in seconds.

Access and Limitations

Apple retains its original on-device image styles free of charge. However, ChatGPT-powered modes require a valid ChatGPT token. Free users receive a small daily quota, while paid subscribers unlock higher limits. Additionally, iOS 26 warns users before any content leaves the device for cloud processing, ensuring transparency and privacy.

Developer API and Future Outlook

Finally, Apple unveiled a dedicated Image Playground API for third-party developers. Consequently, app makers can choose between on-device Apple Intelligence or optional ChatGPT styles. Looking ahead, this dual approach could fuel a new generation of AI-enhanced creativity across iOS, iPadOS, and macOS.
