Mac gamers can now join the fight against the undead as Dead Island 2 officially arrives on Apple Silicon-powered Macs. Released on July 24, 2025, the game brings its intense zombie-slaying experience to macOS with full support for M1, M2, and M3 chips.

Originally launched on PlayStation, Xbox, and PC in April 2023, Dead Island 2 has now entered Apple’s growing lineup of AAA titles. The move aligns with Apple’s strategy to position macOS as a competitive gaming platform.

Optimized for Performance and Graphics

The Mac release is listed as the Ultimate Edition on the Mac App Store. It includes the base campaign, all expansion packs, and additional downloadable content in a single package. Players can expect MetalFX upscaling, hardware-accelerated performance, and smooth gameplay without relying on third-party launchers or streaming services.

The game requires macOS 13.0 or later and runs exclusively on Apple Silicon devices. Unfortunately, cross-play with Windows or console users is not supported.

Apple’s Push for Gaming on Mac

Dead Island 2 joins other recent high-profile Mac releases like Resident Evil Village, No Man’s Sky, and Death Stranding. Apple has highlighted these titles during WWDC presentations, showcasing the capabilities of its Game Porting Toolkit, Xcode, and Metal 3. These tools make it easier for developers to bring blockbuster titles to Mac while ensuring performance parity with other platforms.

Pricing and Availability

The game is available now on the Mac App Store for $69.99. It also remains on Steam, Epic Games Store, PlayStation, and Xbox for players on other platforms.

Apple’s latest addition to its Mac gaming library reinforces its commitment to creating a robust ecosystem for gamers, powered by the strength of Apple Silicon.
