The upcoming ‘Pro’ line of MacBook will feature OLED display panels, according to noted Apple analyst Mark Gurman of Bloomberg. It was first reported by Gurman in 2023, it is a long-time coming prediction. However, it appears that the company is now ready to go-ahead with superior display technology.
Gurman had reported in 2023 that the first batch of OLED MacBook will support touch input which appears to be turning out to be true. The long-time Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo of TF International Securities has reported the same in his latest tweet. It is an unusual move from Apple but it is to be expected, as the company looks to new ways of bringing innovation to its products.

Will the OLED display be harsh on the eyes?
The current generation MacBook Pro uses mini-LED which offer high brightness levels and super sharp colors, including high contrast. On the other hand, the MacBook Air lineup continues to use the older but tried-and-tested LCD display technology. However, there continue to be a set of users who prefer the older LCD display technology for its “easier” on eyes aspect. While the mini-LED displays of the MacBook Pro offer many advantages, the LCD is the more reliable option for many.

The same does not necessarily apply to the iPhone or to smartphones which people generally prefer to be brighter, as they are used outdoors. However, the Macs while used outdoors at occasions do not always have to be super bright when using at home or indoors such as at office locations or coffee shops. Many users have reported that the mini-LED display of the MacBook Pro is difficult / harsh on the eyes when used for long periods of time.
The addition of an OLED option to the MacBook lineup will likely be welcomed by the tech community. However,it will have to be seen whether it will be comfortable to use for long periods of time, as compared to its current counterpart, the mini-LED MacBook Pro lineup.
The newer gen OLED MacBook Pro models will reportedly release sometime in 2026.
