Apple has officially rolled out iPadOS 26.1, its first major update since the release of iPadOS 26 in September. The new version focuses on refining user experience, expanding Apple Intelligence capabilities, and reviving one of the iPad’s most-loved multitasking features.

While iPadOS 26 introduced a host of major improvements, version 26.1 delivers targeted enhancements. These include new personalization options, expanded language support, and subtle interface refinements designed to improve usability across devices.

Slide Over Makes a Comeback

One of the standout updates in iPadOS 26.1 is the return of Slide Over, a multitasking feature that Apple removed in the previous version. Users can now open an app in a smaller floating window by tapping the green icon on an app’s toolbar and selecting “Enter Slide Over.”

Unlike before, only one app can occupy the Slide Over window at a time, simplifying multitasking. This change gives users more control over their workspace and makes switching between tasks faster.

Apple Intelligence Expands Globally

Apple continues to enhance its AI-powered assistant, Apple Intelligence. With iPadOS 26.1, it now supports several additional languages, including Traditional Chinese, Danish, Dutch, Norwegian, Portuguese (Portugal), Swedish, Turkish, and Vietnamese. Live Translation has also been updated to handle Traditional and Simplified Chinese, Japanese, and Korean.

This expansion strengthens Apple’s focus on accessibility and global usability, allowing more users to interact naturally with Apple’s ecosystem.

More Customization for Liquid Glass

Apple’s Liquid Glass interface now includes a new transparency toggle. Users can choose between “Clear” and “Tinted” modes, improving readability without compromising visual appeal.

As Apple refines its software ecosystem, iPadOS 26.1 demonstrates the company’s steady commitment to balance functionality, design, and accessibility—enhancing how users interact with their devices.
