Apple has released new firmware updates for the AirPods Pro 3, AirPods Pro 2, and AirPods 4, marking the first major update since October’s 8A358 build. The update went live shortly after iOS 26.2 beta 2 and arrives without detailed release notes, leaving users waiting to see what improvements Apple included.

The AirPods Pro 3 now move to firmware version 8B25, while the AirPods Pro 2 and AirPods 4 update to 8B21. All three updates carry higher build numbers than last month’s software, signaling incremental improvements.

Live Translation May Be the Key Feature Behind the Update

Apple has not confirmed the contents of the firmware, but the update timing suggests a connection to the company’s upcoming Live Translation feature for AirPods. The feature only works on newer H2-based models, including the AirPods Pro 2, AirPods Pro 3, and AirPods 4. Because of this, the latest firmware may prepare these devices for the feature’s broader rollout.

Earlier this month, Apple confirmed that Live Translation will arrive for European Union users by the end of 2025, following delays linked to the Digital Markets Act. When active, the feature automatically translates spoken language into the listener’s preferred language, making conversations smoother in multilingual environments.

Bug Fixes and Quality Improvements Also Likely

While Apple has not shared a changelog, firmware updates often bring performance refinements, minor bug fixes, and stability improvements. The company has not provided a manual installation method, so users will receive the update automatically when their AirPods connect to an iPhone or iPad while charging.

Users who want to check their firmware version can open Settings > General > About, then select their AirPods to view the current build.
