The move builds on the success of F1: The Movie, which became Apple’s biggest film hit to date. Notably, the film was also the top-earning IMAX release in 2025. IMAX screenings alone generated $97.6 million worldwide.

Five Major Races Confirmed

IMAX described the collaboration as a first-of-its-kind deal. The companies plan to show five Grand Prix events between May and October 2026:

  • Miami Grand Prix – May 3, 2026
  • Monaco Grand Prix – June 7, 2026
  • British Grand Prix (Silverstone) – July 5, 2026
  • Italian Grand Prix (Monza) – September 6, 2026
  • United States Grand Prix (Austin) – October 25, 2026

Therefore, fans in the US will gain multiple chances to watch live racing in a cinematic setting.

Why IMAX Matters for F1

“F1: The Movie” was filmed using IMAX-certified digital cameras. The film’s success showed that the speed and intensity of Formula 1 translate well to giant screens.

Apple executive Oliver Schusser said the collaboration aims to deliver the energy of the sport to even more screens. Meanwhile, IMAX Chief Content Officer Jonathan Fischer praised the partnership and called it an exciting next step.

Expanding the F1 Experience

This announcement follows the August 2025 IMAX re-release of F1: The Movie. It also fuels speculation about a possible sequel.

For now, the focus remains on live events. By bringing Formula 1 to IMAX theaters, Apple TV and IMAX aim to give fans a bold new way to experience racing.
