Apple has officially released the second developer beta of watchOS 27 for most compatible Apple Watch models. The update arrived on Tuesday, one day after the company launched the second developer betas for iOS 27, macOS 27, and its other operating systems. The reason for the short delay remains unknown.

The latest software gives developers another opportunity to test new features before the public release expected later in 2026. Apple continues to refine the operating system during this early testing phase.

Availability and Build Details

The new beta is available for nearly every supported Apple Watch model. However, Apple Watch Ultra 3 users cannot install the update at this time. Apple has not explained why that model is excluded from the current release.

The latest build carries version number 24R5305g. It replaces the first developer beta, which used build number 24R5289n. Although the update appears small, it allows developers to identify bugs and improve app compatibility before the operating system launches.

Apple Urges Caution

Apple advises developers to install beta software only on secondary devices. Early beta versions often contain bugs, unfinished features, and performance issues. Therefore, they may not provide a stable experience for everyday use.

The company designed these preview releases for software testing rather than daily use. Developers can evaluate new APIs, update applications, and report issues while Apple continues development. As a result, future beta releases should become more stable over time.

Looking Ahead

watchOS 27 remains under active development, and Apple is expected to introduce additional beta versions throughout the coming months. Each update should improve stability and address feedback from developers.

For most Apple Watch users, waiting for the official public release remains the safest choice. Meanwhile, developers can continue exploring the platform and preparing their apps for the next generation of Apple Watch software. The final version of watchOS 27 is expected to arrive later in 2026 alongside Apple’s broader operating system updates.
