Apple TV will open 2027 with a new crime drama led by Hugh Laurie. Wanted Man premieres on January 6, bringing a story of betrayal, power, and survival to the streaming service.
Laurie also serves as an executive producer on the eight-episode limited series. He plays Felix Carmichael, a powerful crime boss whose own organization turns against him.
Hugh Laurie Takes on a Darker Role
Felix’s world changes after someone inside his firm betrays him. As a result, he lands in the notorious Staplehurst prison.
Once inside, Felix faces a brutal struggle to survive. He must rely on violence and determination as he searches for a way out. Therefore, the prison setting places the crime boss in an unfamiliar position, where his former power may offer little protection.
The project also marks another Apple TV appearance for Laurie. Previously, the House M.D. star joined the third season of the espionage drama Tehran.
Strong Cast Joins the Crime Drama
Laurie will share the screen with several well-known performers. The cast includes Thandiwe Newton, Fionn Whitehead, Gina McKee, Hazel Doupe, Elliott Heffernan, and Stephen Dillane.
Meanwhile, George Kay created and wrote the series. He also serves as an executive producer. Kay previously created Apple TV thriller Hijack, adding another connection between Wanted Man and the platform’s growing drama lineup.
The combination of Laurie’s central performance and Kay’s crime-thriller experience gives the series a clear dramatic focus. Moreover, its limited eight-episode format should keep the story tightly centered on Felix’s fight for survival.
‘Wanted Man’ Gets January Release Schedule
Apple TV will debut the first two episodes of Wanted Man on January 6. After that, the service will release one new episode every Wednesday through February 17.
The new series joins Apple TV’s expanding collection of crime dramas. That lineup also includes Criminal Record, which returned for its second season in April.
