Apple Smart Glasses Target 2027 as Vision Pro Evolves

Apple could enter the smart glasses market by the end of 2027 while also rethinking the future of Vision Pro. The company reportedly wants thin, lightweight eyewear that brings smart features into a familiar glasses design.

The project would expand Apple’s head-worn technology beyond Vision Pro and Siri-enabled AirPods. However, the company still faces major engineering challenges before its broader vision becomes reality.

Apple Glass Could Arrive in Late 2027

According to the report, Apple currently aims to release some form of smart glasses by late 2027. That timeframe follows several earlier predictions surrounding the long-rumored Apple Glass project.

The first model may take a simpler approach than full augmented-reality glasses. Current speculation points to eyewear with cameras, audio, and intelligent features but no built-in visual display.

Therefore, the product could resemble the concept behind Meta’s Ray-Ban smart glasses rather than Vision Pro. Apple could then add display technology to a later generation.

Meanwhile, Apple is reportedly exploring other wearable concepts. These include AirPods with camera sensors and a screen-free fitness band.

Vision Pro Redesign Explores a Lighter Future

Apple also appears to have bigger plans for its headset business. The Vision team is reportedly developing a “completely revamped headset” under the N224 codename.

Engineers are said to be considering four concepts. One option would move some internal hardware into a separate component, possibly resembling a small puck.

However, that approach creates another problem. Some senior Apple staff reportedly dislike the user experience created by Vision Pro’s tethered battery system.

Consequently, an all-in-one design remains preferable. Yet Apple would need to make such a headset lighter and cheaper without sacrificing its capabilities. The report describes that goal as a significant engineering challenge.

For now, both projects remain unannounced. Still, the reported roadmap suggests Apple sees smart glasses and a redesigned Vision headset as two distinct paths for its future wearable computing strategy.
