iPhone Duo Focus Mode Redesign Revealed in iOS 27 Beta

Apple appears to be adapting Focus Mode for the iPhone Duo’s compact outer screen. New references discovered in the iOS 27 beta point to redesigned controls and a cleaner lock screen layout.

The changes remain unannounced, so Apple could still revise them before release. However, the findings suggest the company wants to make better use of the foldable iPhone’s limited exterior display space.

Focus Mode Gets a Simpler Control

According to the report, iOS beta researcher “pdfu” uncovered the changes in Apple’s software code. On the iPhone Duo, the lock screen Focus button could work as a direct on-and-off control.

Currently, tapping that button takes users into Focus Mode settings. Therefore, the new approach could reduce the number of steps needed for a simple action.

Apple also appears to be shrinking the button itself. The existing design combines an icon with a text label describing the active Focus. In contrast, the Duo version removes the text and displays only the icon.

This more compact design makes sense for the iPhone Duo’s smaller outer display.

Lock Screen Layout Makes Better Use of Space

The redesign goes beyond the button. When users unlock the outer display, the Focus Mode icon reportedly moves above the clock.

Meanwhile, the Duo places its clock on the right side of the screen. The newly repositioned Dock also occupies that area. Apple currently places the Focus icon beside the clock at the top.

Images included in the report show how these small adjustments could create a less crowded interface. They also highlight Apple’s apparent effort to rethink familiar iPhone controls for a different screen shape.

Small Change Could Improve Everyday Use

The update does not address another requested Focus Mode change. Apple still appears to maintain the limit of ten Focus options. Instead, the reported redesign concentrates on presentation and quicker access.
