NetNewsWire adds podcasting support
The latest beta release of the excellent newsreader NetNewsWire adds
support for ‘RSS enclosures’ - geekspeak for ‘Podcasting’
(as if ‘Podcasting’ were not geekspeak enough!). Now you can subscribe to your favorite podcasts in NNW and see at a
glance what’s new, and transfer the file directly to iTunes for syncing with your iPod.
According to NetNewsWire developer Brent Simmons, the podcasting support wasn’t so much planned as it was demanded - by
‘a thousand and one podcast enthusiasts.’ Now that’s a folktale
for our times, indeed.

I just started using NewsFire, as well, but in addition to NNW, not instead of it. I use it to keep feeds I want to watch so closely that I get notification every time they're updated (it bounces in the dock and makes an actually non-annoying 'ding') - one of the coolest features of NewsFire. It ought to become a standard feature, for sure. What do we care what kind of media a feed contains - text, image, audio, video? We don't. We just want to see what's there, whatever it is.
