George Bush: the Steve Jobs of world politics?!
Big thanks to AK for sending along this item that clearly begs filing under “news of the weird” — conservative
German newspaper Die Welt came up with the following analysis following George Bush’s recent meeting with Russian
President Vladimir Putin: “Bush wants to be a great reformer, both in terms of domestic and foreign politics.
Domestically, he wants to revamp America to the same degree FDR did with his New Deal… The new plan involves
marketing, surprises, big design overhauls.” Marketing, surprises and big design overhauls apparently, according to the
paper, equates Bush with the “endlessly creative (and fabulously wealthy) founder of Apple Computer, Steve Jobs.”
Huh. I’ve seen some creative political
analysis in my time, but this… this is really, er, something. Clearly the result of some German Mac-using journalists
in the throes of a slow news day. Or maybe W.’s iPod is
exerting some influence. All I will say is that I am a huge fan of one of the two men, and have very little to approve
of regarding the other — I’ll leave it to you, dear readers, to do the matching up. ;)
[Thanks, AK!]

W "thinks different", and is mounting a "switch" campaign to help people suffering under legacy thugocracies and assorted non-democratic tyrannies to change their operating systems. I concur with the first poster though - keep your politics out of this blog. You don't do yourself any favors bringing left or right political opinions up. Nice job on the Apple blogging - keep it up.

I do think it is an interesting comparison between Jobs and Bush from a leadership standpoint. I agree with the poster that pointed out the consistency of the men to do what they say. (Although the 3 Ghz Powermac Promise was a little disappointing). Peace.
February 28 2005 at 12:22 PM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplyWhat has Bush delivered on? Weapons of mass destruction, peace in Iraq, Osama bin laden, the anthrax terrosist, fiscal conservatism, leaving no child behind. Bush ran several companies into the ground and now is doing the same for America. Jobs, on the hand, has deliveerd and produced at Apple and at Pixar. If Bush didnt have a name and had to create his fortune like Steve did, he would probably work in a gas station and spend half the time drunk and the other half working for someone else.

It's good to see my fellow mac fans stick up for our President. While it is true you can compare similarities of just about any two people, you can make more than one between W and his Steveness. Being underestimated and continually dismissed, whilst all the while delivering the goods is just one of them.
February 28 2005 at 11:15 AM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down Replythis article makes a bit of sense. both men have a very forward view of things (weather you like it or not). Regardless of the fact that Jobs is a liberal, he tends to be very smart with his negotiation/person skills. when he says that there will be a new computer that will revolutionize the world, Apple does it. When Bush says we're sending Saddam to f*cking hell, the United States does it.
February 28 2005 at 9:26 AM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplyC'mon Barb, after all Steve has done for Apple, you can't find anything of which you approve? How 'bout the iPod, the Mac mini, iTunes. Really, Steve Jobs has a lot to approve of. Appears it's a slow newsday here as well.
February 28 2005 at 2:15 AM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplyFor my part, as long as it's at least peripherally related to Apple, I'm fine with the politics (assuming you don't start quoting "Mein Kampf" or posting the lyrics to the Internationale or anything). Keep it up!
