Motorola E399 Postponed

Motorola Logo

The premiere of the first Motorola iTunes phone, the E399, has been postponed by Motorola. Engadget’s take on the pull is that it is the carriers’ fault: ”Sounds like at least one carrier who was going to offer the phone (we’re honestly not sure who) wasn’t happy with something and threatened to pull out of the whole deal if Motorola wouldn’t wait.”

I don’t know what to make of this news.  However, I do know that for some reason the Motorola logo looks more like a mustachioed man frowning to me today than the bat-wings I usually think of when I see it.

One thing that I'm hoping comes out of Apple's playing in this space is that the public gets to see first hand just how screwed up the cellular phone industry is... including why OEM's rush handsets through the pipeline (sans extensive testing in some cases) and the carrier's shortsighted stupidity when it comes to carrying cutting edge phones and offering services that they should charge for (and what's more, services they SHOULDN'T charge for). Above all else, I'd love for people to realize that carriers only care about air time and that that is what is causes the gap of services and phone choices in the states, compared to Asia and Europe. It's a mess out there.
