How to Tune a Ukulele with Your Mac
...Actually, this applies to any instrument, even your voice, but since I am the proud owner of a brand new ukulele,
I thought I’d reference it in the title of the post.
Do you need a small useful tuning programs to help you ensure that you are hitting the correct notes while laying down
the vocals to your band’s new album in Garageband? If so, check out
Perfect Pitch ($15 donationware). I’ve been using my Powerbook’s
internal mic along with Perfect Pitch to tune my guitar for a while now. It’s a good little Cocoa app that is rather
intuitive and has some nice advanced features like displaying precise frequencies for fine tuning your real A sharp to
an ideal A sharp.

GarageBand 2 has a tuner built into it as well.

As I mentioned, I don't have iLife '05 yet.
Thanks for rubbing it in, jerk! ;-)

Recommended this to a ukelele-playing friend. She said she tried it along with three other tuners, and this one was the only one that was off-pitch. Go figure ;)

DF, it matches my tuning fork correctly. Maybe your friend's mic is not quite 100%? What were the three others she tried?

Off-pitch you say? That sounds about right for C.K.

What I want to know is: can I use this to tune my air guitar?

GarageBand only bases its pitch off of A=440, and doesn't seem configurable to any other scale or reference pitch. That's good enough for most Western instruments in room temperature, but Perfect Pitch is much more configurable.
Pretty cool app from Line Of Sight.
