iTunes 4.8 in the wild

iTunes Music StoreFire up your Software Update, people! Everyone's favorite jukebox software, iTunes has just been updated. to iTunes 4.8 with very little detail coming from Apple. According to Macminute, 'Tunes 4.8 includes new Music Store features and support for transferring contacts and calendars from your computer to your iPod (requires Mac OS X version 10.4 on your computer).'

Nothing to get too excited about, however, this release does excite me because it gets us tantalizingly close to iTunes 5.0. What wonders await us in the brave new world of iTunes 5.0? I have no idea, but I know what I would like to see:
  • Support for Ogg files (just because it is geekily cool)
  • Support for having lyrics associated with tracks
  • Built in support for making iTunes related RSS feeds (you could roll your own 'Recent Purchases' feed and upload it to a server.  Sweet.)
What would you like to see in iTunes 5.0?

Update: Well, it looks like there is something to get a little excited about. A few people in the comments pointed this out to me, but Brian did it first. He is what he said, 'Scott, you saw that you can also maintain and watch movie files in this new version of iTunes? And you can check in the System Preferences under Advanced to decide how you want them to be watched.'

Who is ready for the iTunes Video Store? Or would it be the iTunes Multimedia Store?

I agree with Daniel. For now, I use "genre" as label.

Just read that the videos available on the new iTunes store are set at a pixel ratio of 480x272 pixels. This the same pixel ratio of the PSP. Any reports of someone porting a video over? .mCr.

I'm the developer of iFlicks, a Mac OS X application whose sole purpose is to organize and play back movies. As such, I find this development intriguing. I've set up a blog on which to discuss news and information that relates to iFlicks: http://www.helixent.com/iflicks/weblog/

achk, a third. but i thought.. i'd love to see a way for me to download a song off the UK store. or IE, or Canada.. or something... why do you need to compartmentalize our nations? Some of the best music right now is coming out of the UK.

sorry to double post but... if you're still on 10.3, you can get 4.8 on your computer if you manually download it from the apple site. software update won't pick it up. but it's getting harder and harder to resist upgrading to tiger.

No one's going to read this, but I've wanted this feature for a while: Smart Shuffle. We have smart playlists, and shuffle modes, why not combine the two. You can set parameters, and let it do it's thing... I don't know. Just a thought.

How about toning down the dang file sharing security so I can copy libraries between my two computers again? They can call it iTunes Retro. It will bring back all of the non-regulated stuff that I haven't been able to use for the last year lol
