Motorola iPhone Demoed at the D

iTunes Music StoreJason jumped into chat and fed me this from the D conference at around 8PM EST:

Ed Zander of Motorola took the stage to show off a new Motorola phone running what Walt Mossberg described as "iTunes" and which Zander says will sync with iTunes.

We knew this was coming sooner or later, but here's the cool bits: He says it'll have a speaker loud enough so you can play your tunes from your desk, and it'll come with a 1 megapixel camera. Zander alluded to the Motorola phone containing a hard drive, which means the possibility of many more songs than most people have thought possible with any sort of iTunes capable phone.

Now the real question is: will there be an actual Apple-branded phone? Zander wouldn't comment on this.

What do you think? Will there be an iPod-phone? Would you buy one if there were?

I think with Apple having their eyes over Moto's shoulders on this one could be a great step in the right direction for Moto. Sure the RAZR is doing well, but it could be the end all phone device. I hope that with apple's guidance and understanding of simplicity that the device will rox0r our box0rs, but we'll have to wait and see. I would buy one, if it encompases the apple feel, if not, I'll probably just get another free phone for a contract period until the iTunes phones evolve a bit.

I hope it's gonna be a realy smart smartphone, cause otherwise I won't ABANDON my Siemens SX1 (a Symbian 6, S60 phone) for just-another-phone. By the way I already have sync capablities and multiple mp3-players to choose from. The only REALLY sweet feature is complete Apple products compatibility (and that 2megapixel camera ;P)

Hi. i'm very excited by the entry of Apple into the mobile world. I'm curious how they are working directly with motorola to launch their mobile itunes solution and if this solution will work on other carrier handsets. As a games publisher for mobile games, our greatist dilemma involves alinging our software with the ever increasing variety of handsets... As more and more handsets are released each with competing technologies, developers are burdened with the difficulties of ensuring that their games work on a variety of platforms in multiple languages. In the past we have been keeping our solutions inhouse, having a team dedicated to porting each version to work with the post popular handsets. The cost however of this often has exceeded the actual cost of developing the game itself. Just for a figure it often costs 2000-3000 US Dollars for each port. Its been cuting into my cost structure tremendously. However last week while I was in Los Angeles for E3 I also attended the Next Gen conference where individuals from a variety of mobile services presented panels. One panel of particular interest was hosted by Sameer Bhatia's of Octane Technologies who analyzed and presented solutions to this mobile gaming porting dilemma. He emphasized working with specialized units that work with offshore teams to develop ports quickly, cheaply and of quality. Our firm is currently in negotation to contract out some work, and if successful, we might have found out how to finally leverage ourselves in this competitive yet lucrative mobile gaming business, bringing our quality games to a widest variety of handsets and users at a low cost. I wonder how apples will port its itunes technology onto the variety of handsets or will it limits its technology to only motorola handsets or will apple one day release their own phone... oh either way we'll have yet another phone to port our games on to...

It would be a step in the right direction. Apple is holding back on us, or just missing the picture. The iPod needs to include: a cell phone with a camera, an airport extreme card for the internet, and voice activation so that I don't have to take my eyes off the road while driving. I want to tell my Ipod "play Sir mix-a-lot's Bay Got Back". Including some sort of PSP would be great too.
