Google toolbar available for Firefox
A beta version of the Google toolbar for Firefox is now available. It contains a few cool features, including a Google search field (of course), spell check, auto link, which turns street addresses into links on Google maps (U. S. only), auto fill and word translator, which translates English into other languages, among others. Google toolbar requires Mac OS X 10.2 or later as well as Firefox v. 1.0 or later.

I'm not sure if maybe there's a conflict with Greasemonkey, but my app kept crashing after the Toolbar installation. I had to delete it from my profile in order to get Firefox to run, and, after it did finally start, I had to reinstall Greasemonkey. Curious if other folks have had similar issues with Firefox 1.0.4.

I couldn't even get the bar to install at all. I would click on the form button for "Agree and Install" and the Firefox download box, not the install extension box, would come up asking me if I wanted to Save or Open google-toolbar.xpi.
Neither saving nor opening would get it to install. Any ideas?

To answer #1: it is way better than the inbuilt search field. The toolbar allows for highlighting of search terms, finding the next occurence of a search term, displaying of Google pagerank (if you like that sort of thing), search history, plus the other Googlebar extras: spellchecking in forms, autofill, autolink, page info, etc.
I installed the Google Toolbar without any issues and find it way better than the unofficial Googlebar that was previously being worked on. Very happy with this so far.

I installed it and it works great. The spell check is nice, however does it seem to slow the opening of new windows? Anyone notice that?

To answer #3:
Save google-toolbar.xpi on your hard disk, then drag and drop it from windows explorer into an opened Firefox window.
Enjoy !

Thomas, I am using it and found it to be slow in opening new windows too. It annoys me a bit, I feel like i am using my XP box with the delay. I hope they fix the bug soon. Other then that I like it.
