Firefox 1.0.6 is the single most unstable piece of crap I've ever used under MacOS X. I've had to force quit this excrement SIX times in the last couple of hours. My most recent offence? Daring to go to gmail, then switch to another application, and then switch back to Firefox. Yeah, definitely time to explore other options. I don't care for Camino because, like Safari it lacks the option to disable animated GIFs. Looks totally sweet though. Maybe Shiira or OmniWeb?

number 2, i cannot be positive, but did you do any searching for an extension? seems like this would be an issue for enough people for someone out there to make an extension for it. maybe not though.

i love firefox but i have a newer powerbook with the two finger scrolling turned on and i love it but fire fox used horizontal scroll wheels to navigate back and forth through the history which gets very very frustrating when im scrolling down a page and suddenly im 3 pages back... if there was a way to turn this off i would use it...

Kind of glad I did not upgrade to 1.0.5 now. I have now stopped immediately updating when a new version or update arrives and I wait until the dust settles... Certainly don't install anything on a mission critical computer.
