Textpander
Are you tired of typing out frequently used phrases over and over again? I know if I have to type, 'I promise not to contact you ever again,' one more time I will flip out.Enter Textpander. It is a simple preference pane and menu item which allows you to define abbreviations which you can type in most applications and will be magically replaced with a phrase that you have predefined. For example I have set it to recognize iss and replace it with 'I'm so sorry, I promise I'll pay for the damages.'
This app has saved me a lot of time.

inyim => It's not you, it's me.
tintwo => There's just some things I need to work out right now.
jwtbf => I've thought a lot about it, and I wouldn't want to jeopardize our friendship.
callu => I'll give you a call next week or so, okay?
grovel => I'm SOOO sorry I couldn't make it! Some stuff came up and it totally slipped my mind. Maybe next time?
datesis => By the way, and I hate to even bring this up, but... it's about your sister. I just felt like there was this amazing connection there between us and I wondered if it would bother you if she and I hung out?
etc.

this is actually really cool. I just assigned "qwer" to a block of lipsum text. No more digging up placeholder text or pounding my keyboard for me...

Spell Catcher is my hero. Far more powerful and robust in my humble opinion (IMHO).

That's a great idea for a program. To add to Thom's post:
bro -- "You're like a brother to me."

I was using typeit4me, but it completely flaked out. This seems good, and the interface is much better.

I'm a registered user of Typeit4me, but it seems to have gone a bit wonky in Tiger, especially in Mail.app by adding extra line breaks where I don't want them. Textpander seems to work great; I think I'll run with it for a while instead.

I've been using this for a while now, mainly for php + html snippets. I use roughly standardised code all the time and I'm constantly browsing to my snippets folder, but I'm finding that I rarely need to now with Textpander. Peter Maurer is my hero :-)

1st - I am so happy to have this program. I work with electronic medical records that have this functionality and always wished there was a way to do it on Mac. Now the hard part - I use windows machines at work - does anyone know of a similar program for Windows XP?
