Descent 2 updated for OSX - and free!
I don't know why or how, but the gaming classic Descent 2 - yea, the entire thing - is available for OSX, Windows and Linux, and was just updated to version 0.2. It looks like an open source team somehow got ahold of the source and has been chugging away at getting it to work across platforms. (Looks like Interplay, the game's original publisher, has a pretty barren site these days.) I played the 0.1 version on OSX and it was pretty slick, but the game didn't like my mouse very much. Hopefully that was addressed with this update, but either way: go check out this most awesome of classic 3D spaceship fly-around-and-blow-up-crazy-robots games.Share

Interplay is a dead company. They laid off all their employees and stiffed them on their final checks, didn't pay their health insurance, etc etc. All that's left is a few execs trying to cut big deals for the properties they own. It's really sad...Interplay was one of the best game companies around. So many amazing games came out of their studio. :(

It also mentions that it can play D1 which is pretty cool - wonder if I can find my copy from 19whatever - gosh that's old.

Or if it isn't a new trend, I hadn't noticed it before now. I've already played Star Control II ( http://sc2.sourceforge.net/ ) and Wing Commander Privateer ( http://wcuniverse.sourceforge.net/ ) in the last couple months. I wonder what else is in store.
