Firefox 1.5 beta available!
Our sister blog DownloadSquad has the skinny on the next big release of Firefox, version 1.5, reaching public beta. Previously known as "DeerPark" while in alpha, there's quite a few new and updated features wrapped into this update such as drag and drop tab organizing, improved OS X support, better pop-up blocking and more. Check out Victor's post at DLS for more on what's new, or go snag yourself a copy of the Firefox 1.5 beta. One word of caution, however: this is a beta version - which things can and likely could go wrong - and is unsupported by Mozilla. If that makes you feel a little queasy, I'd suggest waiting for their official release.

The only thing that prevents me to rush on it, is the fact most of the plugins are disabled.
I know there would be a procedure to re-enable them one at a time, which is too complex for me. Just loosing Adblock is a show-stopper...
I'll patiently check the plugins upgrades.

No support? So what? I have never contacted Mozilla for any support for their free software. I don't know why people expect support.
I've been running the beta for a half hour. Some extensions had updates already. Very nice so far.

Does 1.5 have nice Apple checkboxes and buttons? Or at least improved ones?

Does the beta scroll properly? That's my biggest gripe with the Mac version. Firefox is the best browser on Windows and Linux (that I've used anyway), but it is not the best Mac browser.

Adblock Plus works with 1.5, but it's not available from addons.mozilla.org yet. extensions.nl has it though.

DO NOT WAIT ANY LONGER, I have a daily bookmark of 120 sites that I open all of them at the same time with "Open in tabs" option, since I've switched from PC, I was not able to do this on the Mac Firefox, so I had to beachball in Safari for a while.
Since I've made the switch this is the first time I can actually browse the web the way I used to with my PC.
Yeah, some of the plugins does not work, but hey, I was bare naked in Safari as well so, wth.
:) just my two cents

ps: I have a 2.0 iMac and 2GB of RAM, and still, closing a Tab took forever on safari, seriuosly like 3, 5 seconds, and with this 1.5 Firefox it's like instantaneous. (BTW: that's a word right? my native language is not english so bare with me)

I have to say, I am impressed. Load times seem faster, the scroll bar doesn't get screwed up and think it's on a different page, and I have not seen a beachball in a couple hours of on and off surfing. I can wait for Adblock, this isn't that bad-- it's mostly great!

Adblock works...sort of. It functions, but it doesn't seem to do anything when I chose "AdBlock Image" from the contextual menu. But adding and editing items in the main AdBlock window seems to function as expected.
Frankly, as long as I've got AdBlock, I don't care what else doesn't work. I don't run that many extensions anyway, so I am largely unaffected.

Newp. Scrolling (with the arrow keys) is still crap on my iBook.

Seems better than FF 1.0.x for me. Infact it was "serious" problems with browsing this site (and others - hey DJ spin that beach ball!) with FF 1.0.6 that was driving me mad and drove me to Safari and then on to Opera (for speed).
In Opera I couldn't get the Adblocker (python) script work properly. Luckily Adblocker Plus (FF) does everyhing the Opera Python script was supposed to do.. So It comes full circle!
p.s. on iBook (pre the latest) you want to be scrolling with sidetrack!
