Daring Fireball on Dell's Ditty
Last week Dell released the DJ Ditty, a $99 512 MB shuffle competitor with a screen and FM tuner. Hot on its heels, John Gruber of Daring Fireball fame has put together a great commentary that is part research, part speculation, and a whole lot of humor, poking fun at a device he doesn't think Dell is even proud of. Check it out, and have yet another nerdy laugh at the expense of Dell's products.Share

I can write what I want, lol. What does my writing about the Hamptons have anything to do with DJ Ditty? If he has a place out in the Hamptons then he has some good taste. I just find it funny that Dell obviously named this referring to him, I just don't think he is that influential. Sorry if you're a fan.

Diddy's ever changing name and then a few articles before tell everyone about your weekend in the Hamptons, which if I am not mistaken is where (P) Diddy has a place.

And I can't help but hope that eventually (give it another 100 years or so) Apple's efforts at raising the bar will start to pay off. We'll know it's happened when Dell, Microsoft & Sony release a product which Mac owners might actually consider purchasing. Now stop laughing -- yes, I'm an incurable optimist, but it could happen, couldn't it? Couldn't it?

September 21 2005 at 8:49 PM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplyI find it humorous that Apple is so easily able to defend even its mass market, plastic, non-clickwheel iPod shuffle against the Dell on this one. Apple's marketing department must have spent weeks thinking up how to pitch listening to music completely randomly as a positive. Now Dell goes and wastes that marketing push and tosses in an impossibly small, yet very un-nano, screen that nobody cares to read. And how could anyone believe that a Dell engraving adjacent to a Dell splashscreen looked good? Can anyone imagine someone proud to own one of these?
