"Screw the nano" says Motorola
Sounds like Ed Zander, Motola's CEO, might be a little sore at the less-than-stellar reception their über-delayed iTunes phone has met, as he's on record in a recent interview saying "screw the nano." He goes on to claim savvy users across the world are going to want a phone with more advanced features - which I would tend to agree with, but I also have a question for dear Mr. Zander: are you really trying to pass a phone that barely works and only holds 100 songs as 'advanced?'Let's also not forget his "who listens to 1,000 songs" question betrays the possibility that Zander doesn't seem to read the news, turn on his TV, surf the Internets, or listen to music himself.
Check out the Infoworld article with more details from the interview, and I guess anyone with more than 1,000 - or even 100 - songs in their collection had better start whittling down their library if they want to achieve Zander's definition of 'advanced.'

Screw the ROKR.
"He goes on to claim savvy users across the world are going to want a phone with more advanced features"
-- darnit man, I want to ADVANCE my features, but not necessarily MORE features, just advance the standard ones. I'd love a beautiful, elegant, simple phone that works well and has great standard features. I barely use a percentage of the junk on those phones -- no wonder he's so defensive. The cell industry has spent more time beefing up their product with more bloat every year than listening to most of their clients. People hate the contracts, the expense... Ed Zander spends more time defending his product than delivering.
...and I for one have 3000+ songs on my ipod. Considering the iPod Mini is the win all player, I guess he's not as hip as, well, we guessed.

So after millions of iPods have been sold, the CEO of Motorola questions the viability of the product? He also questions the carriers who sell his product ("other countries with more advanced mobile phone networks") and the US customers who are not buying his phones (other countries with more...savvy users").
I get it! Your product does not suck, your competition, the carriers and your customers suck.

Motorola's phones have never impressed me -- and their interfaces are awful.
I wish the US had the powerphones available overseas, but if it did, I wouldn't buy one from Motorola.
Maybe if Motorola had spent the time to make a real, well designed musicphone instead of stuffing music into a crappy shell, their product might have been received better.

What do you say to something like this?! Zander, lay off the glue, buddy. If you're not already embarassed by your comments, you are as dumb as you sound.

Just for the sake of statistics let's tally the number of MP3's TAUW readers have in their libraries. I heard 3000+ a few comments up, i have 6000+ myself. Guess how much i would dig a phone that holds 1.6% of my library...

The Galvins need to buy back their family's company {Motorola] and send Zander to Microsoft. Let's use Microsoft as a repository for the clueless; they already have a good stockpile!

This just in: Zander's comments were apparently "just a joke." Go figure.
