EVDO Day 4: The upload slowdown

I've been off of the EVDO for most of the day. This morning, I tried to upload TV Squad's LOST podcast that we slapped together last night to a small corner of the Internets that I own and it was so slow I felt like I was back on dial up. I mean, yeesh! 8mbs and only 60% done in as many minutes!

Sheesh. I'm still on dial up, and I'm lucky if I get 4kb/s. By the way, I'm a cheapskate, I'm still running 10.2! :)

Upload speeds are certainly one of the disadvantages of 3G (EVDO), however you can say the same thing aboout ADSL, which is similar.

C.K.,
What are you uploading with? If it's FTP, that's a very nice looking FTP Client..
Care to share?

Asif, Fugu (http://rsug.itd.umich.edu/software/fugu/) rules, and it's free.

Yes, upload speeds are slower compared to downloads. So, if you are getting EVDO just for uploading, you will not be too happy (unless you are doing it from dialup speeds now).
BroadbandAccess download speeds will be 400K - 700K on the average (with bursts to 2mb, but most people will not see that, but can see 1mb downloads)
The upload speed is 50K - 100K, which is probably what you are seeing

that's right.. it tops out about 115Kbps. I almost didn't go with EVDO because of that. But having 700Kbps (down) on average, everywhere i go was enough to overrule the slow upward connection. I've been on it for a month now and still very happy with it.
i understand that verizon will be testing (rolling out?) a rev to their existing network which will nearly double the network speed.. but i don't know if this will apply upstream or just down..
