No "New Music Tuesday"

ituneslogoAs commenter hesse points out, "Something is going to happen with the music store because they haven't updated it yet. [The] last time it wasn't updated on Tuesday [we got] iTunes 5..."

Good observation. I tend to think something is going to happen with video, given the music videos and movie trailers that have made their way into the Music Store already. So, would you pay a buck or three for exclusive, stand-alone video content from your favorite artist? A live clip perhaps, or maybe a behind-the-scenes recording session or interview? I probably would, as I still occasionally watch the videos that I've already got with previous album purchases (The Foo Fighters, Jack Johnson, etc.).

It will be called the iDeck and it's going to serve up all your media goodness (iTunes to stereo, iPhotos to TV) via any wired/wireless connection you'd like. iFlickx Movie Store (that's all they could get!) is just Tivo+NetFilcks where you'll always have 3 or 5 movies to watch, uploaded to your iDeck via H264 as you sleep/work. No burning to DVD though. The new iPods will act as a remote. All possible!

By my count... iTunes has added two videos since August 9, and one was for the iPod Nano. I have received five videos when pre-ordering two albums with some bonus tracks. The only video added in September was the iPod Nano following it introduction. I felt at the time they were saving for a new iTunes and we got it in September but no video Pod. I agree 580 videos in a short period and then basically none in two months is a clue. The airPort express is not out of the question. I have downloaded MS office 2004 to try it then I purchased it. I purchased Quicken via download and Adobe Reader 7.0.3 is 81 MB and its free. With DSL, I send documents attached to e-mails of up to 20 MB. I just renewed by DSL contract and upgraded the speed. I ready for 700 MB or even a 1 GB to download. I still have a G-3 that kicks butt and a LaCie external HD that has lots of room. So I plug in my 20-inch Monitor to a new MacMini with slot loading superdrive that I am thinking about for $700 add airport express and a few other items and some RAM and this Mac Person of 20 years is ready for "one more thing." I still have the floppies for installing Mac OS Five. I load my Shuffle from 6000 tracks (and growing) each week from by HD. I might have to go for a iMovie Vault myself. On the BART trains (SF Bay) I see people watching videos/movies on their PowerBooks while another 10 or more have various (colors & types) of iPods. I have noticed on the trains lately more iPods than CD players. The Fire-guy in comment one is not so far off. Home Entrainment and computers are already living together under the same roof. I think the marriage will be Apple and all Entrainment (TV/Stereo/CD/iPod) and it could happen on Columbus Day 2005. A far as 32 inch monitor, my desk will only hold a 22-inches without knocking out the CD-Rack and two USB hubs. The TV in the living room will be connected. To sum it up... I feel we get a new iTunes Wednesday and the start (or first installment) of the new Apple/Mac entertainment center for home and portable (Car, Van, Motor homes, bikes, and boats, and even Cable Cars, trains, buses and planes.) I downloaded a 17 track album last night. I had the Artwork including the label, J-Card book, Tray-liner ready for the jewel case by the time the album downloaded and burned which was about 20 minutes. I designed five pieces and printed them. Yes, its an old G3, well care for, but used to the MAX. Steve has something big to announce to keep people from waiting until June 2006 to buy a new Mac which I was thinking about. ThinkSmart has said computers and iPods. I think the "one more thing" means an entertainment wireless system and the software to make it work.

While only slightly related, has anyone else noticed that it's been quite a while since they've added any of the streaming music videos to the iTMS? Just food for thought.

Man its funny how much people look into "details" and read into things thinking they are clues. But reality is yesterday was an official government holiday so "new music tuesday" is going to be wednesday like it always is before when a holiday hits a monday. Same reason the media event is on wednesday rather than the usual tuesday. Has happened before.

I'm still wishing for an iPod video so the prices of iPod Photos will go down to a level where I can finally afford a 60GB. That's not looking good now. As for whether or not I would actually buy video content from iTMS... I dunno. It would have to be pretty compelling content for me to want to download it. I'm not much of a video freak on my computer.

Is a Movie Store realistic? I remember that in an episode of TWiT it was mentioned that Apple is actually losing money on every song they are selling on the iTMS, because of the huge bandwidth and serving costs... Now if they are already losing money on 3MB songs then I don't wanna know how much they would lose on a 700MB movie. How do you distribute such large files to a very very high number of customers??? Anybody know if it's really true that they lose money on every song? I believe Leo Laporte and Roger McGuinn mentioned it on TWiT 21.

An Apple "media center" aka "TiVo" has been in limited testing within the tv/movie industry for a few years now. FYI.

I still think that this has something to do with 802.11n and (hopefully) an Apple media center.

Sounds great but I don't think so.... Apple never makes you have to buy so many pieces of hardware just to be able to enjoy one thing... But u got some fun ideas in there. In response to the actual post: I would pay a buck or two for music videos, especially older ones from the early nineties or before, stuff I remember from my younger days... some of the clips I've been looking for for years now, and couldn't find them. so if they'd be so easily accessed, i'd be happy. and TV show episodes would be great too btw. i'd bay 3-5 bucks for those, or a bigger amount for an entire season...
