Konfabulator now Yahoo! Widgets Engine
Ah, Konfabulator, we knew ye well. It seems that Yahoo! has gone and changed the name of Konfabulator to Yahoo! Widgets Engine (rolls off the tongue, huh?) and released version 3.0 to boot. What's new in version 3.0? Well, the version history hasn't been updated as of yet, but there have been a number of changes to the API, as well as some new features for widgets developers, and new widgets that interact with other Yahoo! properties. Oh, and it requires OS X10.3 or higher.
I can't wait until Yahoo! renames Flickr to Yahoo! Online Picture Sharing Engine.

I like Konfab no matter what it's named. It's free, works on Mac and PC and Tiger is not necessary. :)

If you still have the Konfabulator 2.1 disk image, you can also open the Konfabulator package and go to Contents > Resources > Welcome > Contents > Documents > Widgets and copy "Where Is It?" out of there.

December 12 2005 at 12:39 PM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplyI installed it, and immediately trashed it in favor of Konfab 2.1. It just felt bad. Plus, desktop level widgets did the wrong thing with desktop expose. I'm not sure what I'll do once widgets that only support YWE come out.
December 12 2005 at 12:26 PM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplySearching for 'gmail' in the new Yahoo! Widgets gallery produces no results, while it still works fine and shows GmailGeiger and others through the old Konfabulator search... hrmmm... ps - this was through the windows gallery.

December 12 2005 at 12:21 PM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplyA quick read of the docs shows these improvements for developers: - built-in XML parser - groups of objects (subviews/frames) - support for JavaScript functions for actions - Yahoo! login support - scrollbar objects - ability to get complete headers of an HTTP response
