Inquisitor 2.2 has just been released, and it is now (you guessed it) a Universal application. But wait, there's more! No longer is it using Yahoo to return search results, now it has Google goodness baked right in. You want more? How about a refined interface? Yeah, I thought you'd like that.
For the uninitiated, Inquisitor is like Spotlight for the web (as long as you're using Safari). It allows for real time results to be displayed in Safari's search box, and it presents the results in an organized manner. All of this for €5? You betcha.

Ummm - I already paid for a previous version of inquisitor - can't I get the new version free? It doesn't appear so from the link. :-(

Wait when did it use Yahoo? I just VNC'd into my home computer to see if I was insane, but sure enough, I'm seeing Google right there.

Interssting idea... Unfortunately the developer's idea of a trial is to watch a QT movie of the app in action. You can't download it, not even a demo version, before making a "contribution" (note to developer, it's not a "contribution" if it is not optional -- it's a sale price!).
Further, the developer notes that your "contribution" will get you unlimited downloads of Inquisitor 2.2, "including bug fix releases." Wow. Prepay before trying, no upgrades beyond the current .x release. Might work for some, but even MS and Apple, who have the weight to make this work, offer various .x releases without charge.
It looks good, but not for me nless the developer eases up a bit and lets me try it first. OK, 5 Euros isn't enormous, but still...

OK, the oddness continues. No way to see if you can add different search sites, etc -- very little info on the app, and no obvious way to contact the developer to ask. Given that Euros up front are required to even try this app, telling folks nmore about it might be a good idea. Clicking on the developer's name at the bottom of the page takes you to Kathleenedwards.com -- the site of a Canadian singer-songwriter. No idea what connection she has with Inquisitor, as neither site says anything about the other (that I could find).
Anyone with more info on this outfit care to comment?

I'm surprised they didn't drop the o, to make it Inquisitr. It's quite trendy.

I also don't see any changes in the interface on 2.2.
And i hate not being able to use key down to navigate the search results.
Oh and btw, you can just go to paypal to pay the 5 euro and change the amount to 0.5 and complete it, you get 90% off and you still get the app. It is a donation after all.

Josue,
You can navigate down the search results using the down key. I've found that previous installations of acidsearch can cause problems. If you've used acidsearch before, uninstall both apps completely and then reinstall inquisitor.
The app is good and fast, but I misunderstood that it searches your history (which it doesn't) which prompted me to buy it. It does autocompete based on what you have searched for previously, but doesn't search the Safari cache of what page content you've read. That will hopefully be in 3.0. Otherwise it's a good app.

I have heard a great deal of bad things about the author of Inqusitor, who is also the author of Acquisition. Look through Acquisition's user comments on MacUpdate and VersionTracker. I don't think I'll be giving him any further money.

Jason,
Removing the acidsearch bundle (which i thought i had uninstalled previously) fixed it. I can navigate with key down now.
Thanks!

I agree with some of the previous statements:
DONATIONS ARE NOT DONATIONS IF THE USER DOES NOT HAVE A CHOICE WHETHER TO DONATE OR NOT.
In my opinion it is ridiculous that I can't download a demo or even a free version of this. I'm one of those open-sourcy type of guys.
The developer really should google the definition of DONATION.
I'll do it for him...he's too busy collecting euros:
-a VOLUNTARY gift (as of money or service or ideas) made to some worthwhile cause
done.
