Colbert Report, Daily Show in iTunes
As of earlier this
morning (8:00 AM EST), there is a page for both The Colbert Report [iTunes link] and the
Daily Show [iTunes
Link] in the iTunes Music Store, though they still do not contain any available episodes. The sale of these shows is being handled a bit differently. You can buy a "multi-pass" for both The Colbert Report and The Daily Show for $9.99US. This gets you the current episode, and sets up iTunes to automatically download future episodes as they become available (up to 16 episodes). Think of it as a paid podcast.

This is sweet. Someday we'll abll be able to cancel our cable subscriptions. Well, I would if the video store videos were slightly higher quality, anyway. I've copied them to my iPod and played them back on my TV, and I found it to be a bit fuzzy.

So since the shows air four days a week, this would be a full month's worth... Does this get you 16 of each for that price? Or 8 and 8?
For 16 of both, this isn't a terrible deal at all.
In fact, I know some people who either have cable only for these shows or grab them on bit torrent. This is a nice legal option for people who would rather not pay $50 a month for one show.

it appears that it is $9.99 for 16 episodes or one month of one show, which sounds like a pretty sweet deal to me. if/when i get a video iPod this is a very tempting option since i have about a 30-40 minute metro ride every morning.

it seems like lately there's been a little more bang for your buck from these videos, i.e. the hour long chappelle stand up for $1.99 when it sells in stores on dvd for $15.99 or so.

Awesome. I wasn't sure if Apple would ever be able to offer shows are broadcast on a daily basis simply because of logistics and cost. Kudos to Apple for coming up with a good way around the problem.
Ha, ha! Leeloo Dallas Multi-Pass. :)

Please add the Sopranos, Apple, and we'll avoid wondering if we should get HBO before Sunday.

This is the beginning. These meta-subscriptions should become ubiquitous soon. I wonder though, if you shouldn't be able to _choose_ which episodes you wanted to download, if you didn't want the consecutive 16. Or is that a possibility with this system already?

This is what we need. If we can score this type of system on the rest of the shows I'll buy it.

If this could be extended to Europe (where no Daily show goodnes is available), tears of joy would flow down my face.

Great move by Comedy Central and Apple
Next step: Season-long subscriptions for weekly shows.
I must say I am pretty surprised at how quickly so much TV content has been added to iTunes. Considering the relationship between Microsoft and Comedy Central+MTV, it's great to see them pushing so much content on iTunes.
HBO: Pay attention! You would make a killing by putting the Soprano's on iTunes.

great googly moogly... i've been wanting this forever! i got rid of my television years ago and the only show i genuinely missed was the daily show. $10 a month ain't too bad. it's a bit pricey considering they do 10.5 months on the daily show, but hey it's cheaper than cable and i don't get sucked in to watching crap.

Ok, I am ready to cancel my cable subscription now. I will miss HBO a little bit, but not that much. This is enough to push me over the edge. I can get these and BSG on itunes. SOLD!

As Apple sells more and more TV content through iTunes, it seems to me that they will be less and less likely to offer a set top mac with DVR functions. They would essentially be cutting out a huge chunk of revenue.

I wonder the same thing, since some days they show reruns, like the week Jon Stewart hosted the Oscars. At the very least, if the show is a rerun of an episode I already downloaded, it'd be nice if iTunes is smart enough to not download it again.

I still want to see this free with ads, even if they make it so you can't skip them in the middle of the video. that would be AWSOME... still seeing them on Itunes is a great start.

Just to inform all the canadians out there...
WE HAVE IT! SORTA....
The US iTunes store is available for everyone in canada now. You just need to switch from the canadian store to the US store.
By clicking on that link I was prompted that:
"The content you have requested is only available through the US iTunes store. Would you like to switch stores?"
BOUGHT TIME APPLE!
