Coming soon to iTunes: Ads?
That's what Advertising Age's sources are tell them. It
seems 'Apple's current plans call for the ads to appear only in the lower-left corner of the iTunes library while users
listen to podcasts from their computers rather than from portable devices'. Hmm, what in the lower left hand corner of the iTunes library... why it is the little window that displays album art, and any graphics that might be embedded in an 'enhanced podcast.' Sounds to me like Apple is recommending podcasts use AAC's for their podcasts so they can embed graphics and links, though that wouldn't make Apple any money.
Let's hope Apple won't be turning our copies of iTunes into a billboard anytime soon.

I like the idea sportscenter had. make good, funny commercial ads that people want to watch and let people download them for free.

Ads in iTunes? Really? The whole notion just strikes me as idiotic. Unless the ads are just for other music/videos in iTunes (ala Music Recommendations), then it doesn't make sense.

You know I wouldn't mind this so much, as long as the ads are visual and podcasts don't cut away for "A word from our sponsors." Video podcasts are another matter, a small ticker-syle ad that appears at the bottom periodically wouldn't bother me too much, but I really don't want to see commercials. The ads the DL.TV runs aren't annoying, but that's about as far as they can go for me.

No. Still no. I bought an iPod, and I need to use iTunes to work it. There is absolutely no justification for subjecting me to advertisement. Furthermore, I don't buy from the iTunes music store, so the only thing that ads in iTunes would be doing is breaking UK consumer-protection law.

Has anyone heard of SubscribeCast? Sopposedly they have a technology that allows podcast owners the ability to charge for their podcasts. I know that Rush Limbaugh and Air America have a way to do it to, but they don't have the same security features that SubscribeCast says they do. With all this talk about ads imbedded in Podcasts, maybe the next step is charging for podcasts without ads. You can check out SubscribeCast.com to see what you think. Any thoughts??
