Voice Candy 1.0
The
developers of Voice Candy pitch is as doing for microphones what
Photobooth does for webcams. It is a clever little app that can change the sound of your voice using a variety of
effects (including the popular Vader. I imagine lot of people saying, 'iMac, I am your father.'). But it doesn't stop
there! You can also set up voice reminders. All of this for $12.95 (there is a 15 day demo).

Can you apply the voice effects to an iChat conference? That's what I've always wanted with the Photo Booth effects. Imagine the possibilities if you could add effects from both apps simultaneously!
I'll have to check this out.

From what I can tell, it doesn't look like you can apply a voice filter to an iChat or Skype conversation.
That's too bad.
I guess this would be fun for kids who like to hear themselves sound like Vader....or maybe prospective podcasters with shamefully nerdy voices.
Maybe 2.0 will be what people are looking for.

After downloading and trying VoiceCandy, I dumped it. The only reason I could see someone wanting this is for voice reminders, which I'm not interested in.
For everything else, Garageband kicks butt. GB can produce all the funky voice effects that VoiceCandy can, and more besides, since you have complete adjustability of the effects, instead of presets. Garageband applies the effects in preview, while VoiceCandy makes you record and playback before you can hear the effects. Sometimes I set up GB with a mic and let my kids and their friends play around with it -- they love to hear themselves with a chipmunk voice.
I suppose one could argue that a smaller, simpler app is better for a quickie recording than firing up GarageBand, but that's not enough to persuade me.
