Two hundred dollars for 20GB and black paint?!? Has Apple gone mad? Still, that black MacBook is a seriously good looking machine. So, TUAWers, what's the verdict? Just ordered mine :) Brighter screen is just what was needed. I couldn't stand the previous generations' mucky lcd. Black case, webcam, faster?!?! All icing on the cake. This is my first Apple computer and I couldn't be happier about it.

It is very tempting to get the black one. But damn $160 just for a black case is a bit much. Got to love supply and demand.

I remember the days when PCs were all beige but you could upgrade to a black case for an extra $100. Nothing new here.
Of course, now all PCs are black...

I won't buy a mac book at all. 13.3 inches is too small, 17 inches is too big for what I need. The 15" is all I'll probably ever buy from apple. I can't imagine doing a live show with a screen smaller than what I have now.
Looks like I'm stuck with silver :p

Having had a black iPod since Apple introduced the black video model, I've decided that black is overrated, and white remains far more elegant. :-)

Oh, and I just checked to see how much the paint costs - if you upgrade the hard drive on a white one to 80GB, it's still 89 cheaper than the black.
I suppose that if you _really_ liked the colour black, 89 would be worth paying.

I would have ordered a black one had I not bought a MacBook Pro a few weeks ago. Let's just say I'm a little peeved at spending twice as much for basically the same speed.

The U2 iPod sold well. The black MacBook will too. Some people will pay a premium for a hot new cell phone rather than wait for a few months for the price to drop.

If Apple would add some chrome "accents", flashing idiot lights, "Intel Inside" sticker, "Core-Duo" sticker, "WindowsXP Home/BootCamp" sticker, "JBL Audio" sticker, "RealAudio" sticker, "Free Norton AntiVirus/Popup/Spyware" sticker, ......... it'll look like the crap I switched from three years ago.
A black case is giving me some really bad flashbacks.

IMO that thing is incredibly ugly. I haven't liked a single picture I've seen. The white one's ok, I always liked my iBook.
Also I'm upset that my 2 week old MBP is now obsolete because it's only 2.0ghz without a glossy screen.

You left off the most important poll answer: Yes if it didn't cost an extra $150 just for black plastic. See how scratched up my iBook G4 is a little less than two years out though I bet the black would really look like crap after that long. But I think I would still get black so I could participate in the case action lawsuit ;) (as long as the price was the same).

not obsolete, check all other specs, screen, graphics ports etc... all out do the new macbook. by the way, the black is ugly and not apple like........
