Well, I've give Joy of Tech this -- they are consistant. Consistantly unfunny!
It's like some high schooler with Illustrator auto-trace doing cartoons for the yearbook. Joy of Tech isn't particularly sly, witty or clever. They take concept "A" and take it to an extreme. Or take Concept "B" and spin it around 180. (guess which one this is)
It's mildly amusing - a momentary slight grin. But I would never call it funny -- I've never actually laughed at a single one. They are cartoons I'd send to my grandmother.
Interesting. In the short story "Sentinel," upon which 2001 is based, the alien artifact is not a black monolith, but a crystal pyramid. (I assume the artist knows this?)
