Firefox 1.5.0.4 released

I swear, if developers keep adding decimals to their versioning systems, I might just have to start a petition or something. Firefox 1.5.0.4.3.2.1.12 is available with "improvements to product stability" and several security enhancements. I believe it should be available via Firefox 1.5's built-in updating system, or simply from Mozilla's Firefox page.

[note: extra '.3.2.1.12' added for humor. Not intended as a real software versioning system - yet]

#2, the reason is that releasing new versions is now so (too) easy.

Back in the day, when a bug was found in Multiplan and the equivalent of a point release was needed, Microsoft had to ship thousands of floppy disks to customers.

This wasn't cheap, so an emphasis was made to keep releases as isolated as possible.

This doesn't necessarily mean there were fewer bugs, just that updates were less frequent because it cost the company money to release them. Now it doesn't, so there is less emphasis on infrequent updates.

I agree that 4 digit version numbering looks stupid.

To that point...whatever happened to good old fashioned GM versions of software. Versiontracker is full of beta software. Is it me, or shouldn't the software be finished before it's released. I get the whole, getting everyone to test it to work out bugs but shouldn't that still be more private. Hit me with final version. Even a point release is fine as long as there is 1 maybe 2 numbers after that decimal point tops! My $0.02.

Hehe... I had the same feeling about the decimals. Great pun.

Also note that the Thunderbird version is the first "official" release with Intel Support, formerly it was development builds only.
