The widget will report how much smaller your file is going to get, and its description states that your new file is "saved in the same location as the original", so I'm pretty sure this means it doesn't overwrite the original, but proceed (and backup!) with caution.

"Actually, I cheated a little with the CSS Tweak widget. Well, not so much cheated, but I didn’t code the whole thing in Textmate. I managed to be one of those lucky people who had an installed version of Dashcode on their new MacBook Pro. I used Dashcode to develop this widget from start to finish and I really only have great things to say about it."

He had it already installed on his comp that he just bought

I believe the primary vector for dashcode distribution has been the new MacBooks, at least, that is where DashCode was first reported to have been found.

I have not read any reports if it is merely another piece of Xcode, which was was upgraded around the same time.... I have not upgraded Xcode yet.

If you follow the READ link, it appears he had Dashcode (the unconfirmed by apple dashboard coding program) installed on his MacBook when he got it. Is this common??
