Flock releases 0.7 beta

Finally, after months of small alpha version bumps, Flock, the social web browser based on Firefox, has unleashed a 0.7 beta with a whole slew of updates, improvements and bug fixes. Along with a site re-design, check out their blog entry for a thorough rundown of what's new and what's still on the way.

This beta-worthy version has been a long time coming, and my copy is downloading as I write this. In case you aren't familiar: Flock has Firefox at its core, but includes a ton of features and capabilities built around the concept of using and interacting with the web - not just surfing it. Features like built-in blogging, uploading to/keeping tabs on Flickr and integrated del.icio.us bookmarking are all on the feature list. It's quite a slick browser if you've been looking for a solid, integrated tool for both browsing and participating in the web. Check it out.

#9: lol. Sorry for the confusion, I should've explained that part: in order to move those buttons to the right side of your window bar, go to the store, sell your soul and buy a Piece of Garbageâ„¢.

To all:

How DARE you even consider suggesting that I work on a PC! I ought to ban all your IPs and user names this instant!

Ok, kidding. Turns out that when I was putting this post together, the only screenshot I liked to capture most of what Flock was about is the shot accompanying the Download Squad post I found this at. So I nabbed the pic (it's a sister blog, we're good like that) in a pinch. I went through all their tour images, and everything I saw pretty much captured just the specific feature it was (rightly) associated with.

I know, disgraceful. It is probably I who should be banned... But, if you can find it in your hearts... please, just give me a chance, JUST ONE MORE CHANCE!

:)

i use the rss reader all the time (in fact for all of my weblog's inc. sites), and the 'drag and droppy" photo uploader for fickr (i've never used photobucket) is awesome.

"It does suggest though that TUAW is put together on a PC"

All the Weblogs, Inc. sites are run on windows servers...including TUAW, I remember a few months ago being terribly disappointed to be greeted by an ASP error while trying to load TUAW :-( Ah well, windows is so unfortunately unavoidable...at least the content of TUAW is on the right track ;-)

How do I get my close, zoom, and minimize buttons over on the right-hand side of the title bar? I've been trying for hours...

Downloaded and tried it.

I think, once it goes stable that I'll recommend it to my (sadly PC using) family members. It seems to perform better than Firefox, with the addition of neat addons and a reasonably good looking interface. I'll stick with Safari, myself, unless they put some really good things in there. Just... pass a damn Acid test already! Stupid Mozilla.

Also, most Firefox extension will work in Flock, as long as the extension author adds a couple lines. Also, if for some reason you're using 64-bit Linux, Flock will give you a 64-bit native Flash plugin. This may or may not help, given the common usage of Flash on the web...

A rather neat project that I'll be keeping an eye on. Good job, Flock people.

Hmm... www.flock.com seems to show screenshots relevant to the platform you're on.

They probably use some JavaScript to detect the platform and display "personalized' screenshots, which is nice.

It does suggest though that TUAW is put together on a PC...
