DeskBrowse is now free
If you're looking for a quick, efficient browser that will appear and disappear at the press of a button, look no further than the cleverly designed DeskBrowse. "The browser is toggled in and out of the side of the screen via a hotkey," describes their website, and has a feature called Websposé that enables what they call a "password-protectable 'kiosk-mode' web environment ideal for allowing other users or guests to browse the web safely without any harm coming to your system." And it works as advertised.Plus, it's fast, free, and open source -- so give it a try.
[Thanks, Chris]

I think every application should work like that, with the sliding.
Yea having hotkeys for them all could get confusing but allt he Function keys are enough for the applications you use the most (unless you have a laptop, because then you have to hit fn + Function key, and thats a pain).

This is great. I've been looking for a way to load up all my google services (mail, calendar, reader and personalized homepage). Been using Safari for that, but I would like the Google stuff to be separate so as to not interfere with my other web use. This is a great app to do this, especially with the sliding and webspose action! Actually, Google Calendar doesn't load up right (not sure why, since Safari with Webkit is now compatible).

This program looks pretty sweet. I hope it gets better bookmark management some-day, but I can see myself using this a lot - like at work, keeping all my work-related pages open in Firefox, and all my personal pages (gmail, bloglines) in DeskBrowse. Very nice!

I guess having exposé on completely hacks the security of the weposé feature.
The sliding is cool, but then again who needs sliding when you have exposé. I think it would be nice to have sliding individual applications built into an OS X as an exposé feature. For example: Command + S (sliding and app) instead of Command + H (hiding an app). Or heck just make apps slide away when you hide them!

It's pretty, with better bookmark support it will be great. But, I'm still using it from now on. It's really the sort of thing one looks for on a mac, a good, clean and pretty program that's useful.

Hi there,
Well I installed this DeskBrowse, and took a through look at it and I have to admit, EVEn free is too expensive. These are the people that give bad name to software Developers. User Intrerface and User interaction is totally non existant! Deskbrowser was immediately deleted!...

Does anyone knows if it works on Panther? I couldn't find easily any information about this.

I found deskbrowse to be neat, but persistently crashy if you turn off navigation controls in kiosk mode. The app has a lot of potential but is not nearly mature enough to be practical for significant use.

Needs some work. It would be nice if you could move it like the dock; i have my dock on the left so it gets in the way. Also if you hide the dock icon and menu bar icon there is no way to quit the program ("comman+option+esc" doesnt show it running) so you have to go into activty monitor to quit it.

I like this little app, unfortunately it hangs when I try to reopen it after quitting. I can delete the plist files after going into application support and then it reopens without issue, but gosh that is a bit of a hassel to do every time.
