Retro Mac: Photoshop 1.0.7

Creativebits has taken a trip in the way back machine all the way back to 1990 when Adobe released Photoshop for the very first time. They compare Photoshop 1.0.7 to the current iteration of Photoshop and go over some of the features that were missing in that first release that graphics folks couldn't live without now adays.
If you would like a comprehensive tour of Photoshop splash pages head on over to GUIdebook which has them all (and from whence I got the image that accompanies this post).

I remember, just before this version 1, which marked the coming of Adobe, the previous one was a freeware called Photolab, by the same Thomas Knoll...
I won't dare say almost all was already there of course, but, well, at the time... :-)

I always wished that they'd make a Photoshop Lite or something based on Photoshop 3. It's my favorite version.

I remember when PhotoShop was competing against the established LetraSet ColorStudio. ColorStudio was huge and expensive, and Photoshop did 80% of what you wanted at 5% of the price. Sometimes I wonder if Adobe, as of late, hasn't set up the market for a competitor to come out with the next "photoshop" this year.

Pah, this is nothing! I got an old Performa 460 (gift from a friend a few years ago) containing Photoshop Beta version 0.63, dated 10/2/88
Screenshot of said Photoshop can be viewed on my DeviantArt-page, right here.

Wow, For the longest time I thought I had started using PS at version 2.
That startup screen looks very familiar, so it must have been version 1.07.
Cool!
I started with Mac Paint and loved SuperPaint and Canvas as well.
Ahh the good old days.

From what I understand, Photoshop started out as a program writted by either John or Thomas Knoll's college thesis and it then took on a life of its own.
The rest is history...
