If you still aren't tired of yet more iPhone rumors, here's a fairly juice one that's fueled by the crafty digital sleuthing of an AppleInsider reader. By dissecting the latest iPod firmware update, the reader found references to "t_feature_app_PHONE_APP" and variables such as "kPhoneSignalStrength", "prPhoneSettingsMenu" and more. To further fuel the fire, it's unlikely that this code has anything to do with the Motorola phones as they use an entirely different operating system. If you're interested in seeing the rest of the findings, including references to an iPod-based search application and an iPod keyboard, check out this AppleInsider forum thread.Engadget is betting that we could see this now-infamous iPhone as soon as WWDC, beginning Monday August 7th, 2006. I guess time will only tell if Steve pulls an Apple-branded phone out of his jeans any time soon.

More of a case of when that if, clearly.
I'm gonna have a bet that it is announced in Aug but is probably not ready for commercial launch by then, just to whip everyone into a greater frenzy.
I'm hoping it's a bit more that just a phone though. I'd like blackberry-style email integration with (and I'm sure this will be in place), ical and contact syncing...
oh, and a built in light saber.

Didn't this news come out ages ago? I seem to remember hearing it 2 or 3 weeks ago.

t_feature_view_APPLEKEYBOARD
Maybe the "VIEW" part of that hints for an on-screen keyboard?

Please Apple, hurry. I can't stand my garbage Sony T610 any longer, and there don't seem to be any iSync-compatible Bluetooth phones on the market right now that don't have one serious flaw or another. Can't anyone make a good phone???

#5: you must not be looking very hard. Check out the W800i or W810i. They have an insane amount of functionality, nearly all of which is Mac-friendly.

For those who haven't seen this: http://www.devilducky.com/media/46492/
It's a spec commercial (I guess thats just a better wording for fan-made) from two filmmakers. I would ditch my phone for this in a second.

my contract with nextel is up in mid august... my wallet is ready...
and incase you are thinking 'but, tim, what if this phone sucks?' then i ask, have you ever used an iden phone? where if you dont use it for 12 hours your battery is halfway (if not more) gone. there is no integration into ANYTHING, not even the phones 'capabilities.'
so i, am PRAYING that there is something in august for me to buy. perhaps ill pick one up along with a new mac pro to sync it to? take some of the load off the powerbook, of course.

IF an iPhone is indeed introduced, you know how it will happen. Steve will be just presenting the normal stuff, talking about new products. All of a sudden, a cell phone will ring from within Steve's pocket. Steve will apologize, but he must take this call. Out comes the iPhone....
A geek can dream, can't he?

Where did the pic on the original post come from? That created/swiped/concept photo looks pretty cool. Very high res screen. Sure hope the iPhone is sold to all major cell companies. (Alltel, hint, hint)

@ Matthew: Not a chance. My T610 has been the WORST electronic device I've ever owned. Period. My next phone will NOT be a Sony.

Hey extensor,
Steve should do his whole WWDC speech and then start wrapping it up with the thank yous to all the employees etc. as if there is no "one more thing".
Then all the sudden the "clicker" in his hand starts to ring. He slips off the cover, flips it open and and you hear Phil Schiller saying "Steve, you forgot the "one more thing". Steve thanks Phil for reminding him and then announce the iPhone.
And by the way I've been using the iPhone to control my keynote presentation today.
He then proceeds to call Bono and asks him how he's liking his iPhone.
Next, he calls Bill Gates, laughs hysterically and then hangs up.
