Bonsoir

R. Tyler Ballance wrote Bonsoir during an all night coding marathon before BarCamp, which is a sort of 'unconference' for developers and their ilk. So what the heck does Bonsoir do? Thanks to the magic of Bonjour it allows people to share their vCards with each other, on a local network, with the smallest of effort.
Bonsoir has been released under a special BarCamp license.

Slight correction: BarCamp is an unconference, but not just for Cocoa developers. BarCamp is for everyone, though primarily geeks/techs/etc. will attend their local meetings.
Cocoa developers don't need another conference. Not when they have WWDC! :-)

I'm curious how this compares to Address Book's sharing option (which I have NO idea how it works, I apparently can invite someone to access my address book, not sure who...)

Of course I could've checked the address book help first... apparently it's .Mac enabled. So not as cool sounding as Bonsoir which is Bonjour enabled and not limited to .Mac account holders. Spiffy.

What exactly is an "unconference"?

I just figured it'd be worth mentioning that at the request of some of the other BarCampers, I've started setting forth on a portable rewrite soe Bonsoir will be Mac, and Windows compatible (also in preparation of my CocoaDevHouseTexas presentation on using C# in Cocoa applications) :)

An "unconference" is more along the lines of a grassroots conference organized and "put on" by its participants. It also doesn't cost the price of a MacBook like WWDC ;)

The only downside to this solution is that each person has to have a copy of the software.
A better solution would be a web based app that allowed folks to upload their vCard file and keep it updated.
The web based app could then generate a single vCard file that contains all current info.
Folks could update their cards before arriving as well as after leaving the unconfrence. Everyone has a web browser.
