Griffin announces iKaraoke for iPod

Yes, this is exactly what you think it is. The iKaraoke from Griffin Technologies (scheduled to ship some time this winter) is a combination FM transmitter (there's a line out option as well) and microphone that broadcasts your music to your home stereo, minus the lead vocals. From there, you're set to turn on the included mic and do your best "Born To Be Wild." You can also add a bit of a reverb effect to your own singing, or bring the lead vocal track back up if you begin to panic.

No pricing was available at the time of this post.

iTunes already has some Karaoke songs. I actually noticed them for the fist time last night. Not sure how long they've been there for.

I've thought for a LONG time that iTunes should offer Karaoke tracks. They would work GREAT with Front Row as the lyrics could be displayed on the screen.

Dave,
Both this and the forthcoming iTrip Pro are $50 - during one of our interviews (with the Griffin folks here at Apple Expo Paris) they told me.

I've been dreaming of a device like this for a while. Would be great on long road trips. Been dying to showcase my vocal talents for a while!

i swear that they run a competition in the griffin r&d department every week to see who can come up with the best thing to pluck into a dock connector.

still, this could feasibly be battery-drainin' fun for the whole family!
