Concrete iPhone info?
Looks like we might finally have some reliable information regarding the specifics of the long rumored iPhone. MacRumors has posted a description provided by a "reliable MacRumors.com source" of the upcoming device as well as an artists rendition of what the phone might look like. Judge for yourselves, but this certainly strikes me as the first mock-up we've seen that I could really see Apple releasing. The sleek simple design closely follows the look of the 5G iPod line, and it makes sense Apple would take advantage of user familiarity with the interface and the recently announced iPod games. According to the source, the clickwheel will slide down to reveal a standard numeric keypad.[Thanks Jason Kraus}

35 posts and the mongoloids are still coming out of the woodwork to call "PHOTOSHOP! FAKE! NO REFLECTIONS! WHERE ARE THE BUTTONS?!!" There should be an IQ minimum or better yet opposable thumbs requirement to sign on to the intarweb these days. For the record any blog devoted to apple has to have it's share of rumor-mongering. It's part of the subculture. Mac users are constantly primed for new product releases and whether you like it or not you and your heightened sensitivities WILL be exposed to rumors you want to hear nothing of. Grow up and deal with it or read Macnn for your HARD apple news.

Since the click-wheel will be virtual it can easily "slide down" and disappear, leaving a virtual lit phone keypad in its place. Once you are done dialing the click-wheel reappears. It really takes the idea of a "slider phone" to the next level. Now that would be freaking awesome.

Well, if it's a flip phone I'm not interested. Flip doesn't seem Apple's style at all. We'll see soon enough.
The iPhone won't have a numeric keypad.
5.5G iPods show us how text and number input will be done. The clickwheel will be sufficient for all iPhone functions.
Earbuds with mic can be used for communication.
My only concern is whether it will have a built-in camera.
Other than that, it will resemble an iPod nano, opening some way to get a SIM card inside.
Whatever, whenever, etc, the iPhone ships it better ship as an unlocked phone.

September 14 2006 at 2:06 PM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down Replyyou all make me laugh. in the same comment you refer to "rumor sites" and the moan and complain about how they have too many rumors! haha! seriously, though, tuaw is not, strictly speaking, a rumor site. but they've long posted rumors that are showing up around the net, so just chill, y'all.
personally, i'm more tired of the complaints about rumors than the rumors themselves.
I'm sure I'm not the only person that feels this way, but in terms of the iPhone, "no flip, not interested".
I don't want a "candybar" (Nokia) form factor, I want a flip like my RAZR but with Apple goodness thrown in.
I would absolutely love it if TUAW had a Digg-style preferences pane where I could uncheck anything with the word iPhone in it.
I am so incredibly sick of the stupid iPhone rumors.
