My Dream App opens voting, offers free Pzizz licenses

My Dream App, the revolutionary new 'American Idol' of software from Phill Ryu which we've been covering, has officially opened the first elimination round voting to the public. A total of 24 apps are on the chopping block, and it's up to y'all to decide which are voted off the island, and which get to run a health juice shop together, er, something. You can vote for up to 18 contestants, and the big-name judges like Wil Shipley (Delicious Library), Nicholas Jitkoff (Quicksilver), David Watanabe (Acquisition, NewsFire), Allan Odgaard (TextMate), Cabel Sasser (Panic), Brent Simmons (NetNewsWire), Ken Case (OmniGroup) and Gus Mueller (VoodooPad) have added their comments and opinions to each of the apps (you can see all comments by clicking on each of the contestants on the left). Voting closes at 11:59 EDT Friday, September 22nd though, so you'd better run (as opposed to the typical 'walk' or 'mosey') to add your two cents on which apps make the cut.

As an added bonus, voters will be offered a free license to Pzizz, the strangely named (but critically acclaimed) app that helps users achieve a heightened state of relaxation through specialized sounds. While we don't recommend using this to fall asleep at work, it is $40 worth of software for free, so what do you have to lose? Go vote on My Dream App and help be a part of innovative software development history.

I voted for V-LOG ever since i got my I sight camera I have figured out dozens of ways to use it;
1. video diary Log
2. waking up in the night to remember my dream of a tornado
3.Point it towards the parking lot and record my car outside,
4. Watch what my cat dose all day when Im gone.
5. I bought a security module that spins it arround the room when Im gone and takes quick video shots ever 5 minutes for security.
6. I use it for leaving quick notes without the video audio only.
7.I made my own video Journal using OmnioutlinerPRO and EVO and some cool scripting that inserts everything with a red flag and date which is very cool. some days I leave a video journal, most days audio and some text the script handles it all.
8. For chirst sake vote for V- LOG it is well needed, :)

It's worth reading through all the entries just to get Will Shipley's comments. Did he take his cranky pills that day or what! His comments about Savant Carde are priceless.

It seemed to work fine on my Firefox 2 beta, but apart from that, a lot of apps only looked like 'meh'

some of them have potential, and I hope other developers could deliver those, but I voted for desktop wars, because, as an amateur movie editor, you have a lot of dead moments (only yesterday I imported a movie file for about 9 hours) Of course those give you the opportunity to work, but the rendering of sequences takes around 5 minutes (for me, that is) and on those occasions, it's great to have a nice game that doesn't take much resources, and is fun to play. I hope it wins. It will also be great to see a familiar ground to be used for something completely different (imagine playing a huge paintball tournament in your high school (I'm no longer in high school, mind you), how cool would that be?

I voted for Chatboard and iGTD.
I don't like the name "iGTD", but I *love* an app that would do that and would sync with my Palm (no, not iCal and bundle).

I voted for Whistler. I would use something like that everyday - it's such a great idea and could be made into something really spectacular.

Awwww, @#$! I *just* purchased Pzizz (it's really quite nice...) Luckily, I got it from MacZot, so it was less than $40.

Like comment #5 says, Firefox and voting equals no dice. It appears the site is using Mootools for Javascript effects and AJAX, which is supposed to be Firefox compatible, but obviously something is not right.

Using Safari, I had no issues.

Clicking on photos to see app details not Firefox compatible! Had to use Safari. No biggie, but unexpected.

None of the apps seems interesting to me.

I really must learn to do some Mac apps.

Yes, Desktop Wars, because we all need to play more instead of doing stuff... sheesh. And I'm sure we're also in great need of another RSS reader like Herald, or at least it seems to be that way by the voting results so far. :-

Why can't people vote for the truly good or innovative ideas. :(
