I know the iCurve isn't exactly at the top of the rumor mongering lists, but reader GillyGill noticed that Amazon has - again - leaked details on yet another unreleased product: Griffin Technology's iCurve 2 (either someone is really screwing up over there, or Amazon has launched a new We Leak™ marketing service). Since customer affinity for these stands can sometimes match (at least by ratio) Mac users' love for their machines, I figured this slip was worth a post, especially since Griffin's site mentions nothing other than the original version is out of stock.
Amazon says the iCurve 2 should be available October 1st, but *something* is telling me that didn't quite happen; maybe it's just the lack of any kind of 'buy now' button and that it's already the 6th. I guess iCurve lovers will have to wait for everyone to get on the same page.

My friend Matt has an iCurve. His laptop (powerbook g4) slid off of it and crashed to the floor. Messed it up really bad. He called Griffin. They told him it was a heat issue with the pads and that they couldn't do anything about it. They basically owe him $1200. He's not seen 1 cent or any sort of response to the dozens of phone messages and emails that he has sent.
Blah.

I had the same thing happen with my powerbook G4 17 on the icurve. it was dented in a nasty crash to the floor, but no further troubles. I actually glued on velcro to it and put velcro strips on bottom of powerbook and now it works like a champ. I am using it that way as I type this using bluetooth keyboard and mouse combo.
this new picture of the icurve (though it seems to have lost its curves) looks like it may address some of the problems with the previous version. though for me, I would definitely use the velcro. it is just sitting there and will fall off. the biggest problem with the icurve is definitely style over substance kind of thing. It looks cool, but does not work as advertised without some modification. In my case, velcro :-)

Honestly, the icurve seems like the biggest waste of money. I got myself on of these clear phone stands, which does the same thing, only with a lip to prevent the laptop from slipping off, and cheaper.

I've been using an iCurve for more than two years with my two Powerbook g4s (TiBook, then Albook). No slips. No problems. Perfection.

#1 -- you were "literally" going to buy one? How does one "figuratively" buy something?
You *acutally* have me confused.

My iCurve has been fine with 12 and 15in Powerbooks (Alu and Ti respectively) and now a 17in MacBook Pro. The big thing for me to remember is to ALWAYS leave a little less than an inch to the edge of the stand. Works like a charm without slipping.

also roberto's "literally" was reffering to today as opposed to the buying part. he was actually going to buy it TODAY as opposed to figuratively buying one today- which would mean in the near future
i got your back, bro

I have been wanting an iCurve for a while. Something to give me more desk space. I like the iCurve over the other stands because it fits with the Mac style. Although, I have to say, I like the iCurve 1 better.

Or you could save your money and build your own laptop stand.
Here is a keyboard garage style stand,

And this one is a vertical/cable management stand.

The iCurve looks really nice, but as mentioned previously, does have a tendency to drop laptops off it. Made a disaster of my 17" powerbook. The iCurve is in the basement now. I wouldn't even sell it on eBay, for fear it would do more damage.

I've been using an iCurve with a Powerbook G4 1.67ghz since July 2005, and have had absolutely no slips, and of course no drops/falls. I slide the iCurve with the Powerbook on it around on my desk a lot depending on what I'm working on. No slips.
I too leave a good half inch of the front prongs exposed, meaning the Powerbook is not all the way forward on the thing. Every 6 months or more if I remember I do wipe the pads on the iCurve down.
I live in Tokyo and had to pay the equivalent of $70 USD for mine (¥8,000), nearly double the price in the U.S. I know it's crazy to pay that much for a piece of plastic, but even at that price it's worth it, IF having a harmonious looking desktop is important to you. My Powerbook on the iCurve is truly a thing of beauty. It soothes my eyes to behold it.
