Firefox 2.0 Final due out today
Mozilla is expected to officially unleash the final version of Firefox 2.0 later today.
Update: Since Mozilla doesn't seem thrilled that a pre-release FTP link has been plastered all over the web already, I'll add this caveat: Although it may be the final version, you'd be wise to re-download the final final version once it's posted to Mozilla's main site later today since there could still be last minute changes. A here's a cautionary note from Mozilla themselves: "Preed the Release Engineer says: friends don't let friends download Firefox before it's released."
Update 2: Mozilla has asked everyone to take down the early-bird FTP links, so we have complied. Sorry about any trouble, and we'll update once the official curtain is lifted.

You should take this link down...
Info from mozilla here: http://weblogs.mozillazine.org/preed/2006/10/the_antirelease.html
Just wait till they officially release it to respect their wishes and not cause problems with incomplete or incorrect downloads (Unless they've said it's ok to download off the FTP since last night and I missed it..)

Isn't this *exactly* what the Mozilla folks were lamenting in this blog post?
Way to go, guys.

I've been using the release client since RC2 and it's rocked! Not quite as Macish as I had hoped, but it's still very nice. Oh and it's on MacUpdate.

Why do all the news sites want to beat Mozilla in announcing the release of firefox 2.0? Just link to mozilla.com and wait the few hours until it really is released.

It was actually released yesterday. I downloaded it yesterday morning... http://www.theregister.co.uk/2006/10/23/firefox2_release_imminent/
The register put the ftp link on their site in the AM GMT.

Raghu, it was not officially released on Monday. That was mistake, and Mozilla has since asked all parties to take down the link. (See the item on Slashdot for details.)
Also, Laurie, Firefox 2.0 does not have an integrated RSS reader. It has a new feature to easily add feeds to you favorite reader, but it does not have a reader itself.

I would wait until Firefox 2.0.1 is released. You know there are going to be some overlooked bugs.
In fact, waiting until .0.1 of any software is smart (see iTunes 7, iPhoto 5, Quicktime 7, etc)

If you go to Mozilla's site and hack the URL for the current (or outdated, however you look at it) version of FF, it'll download the 2.0 version for you. Worked for me yesterday....
And as a google reader user, I love that FF2.0 allows me to select it as my feed reader. adding feeds now is SUPER easy. love it!

Anyone else notice that in Firefox 2 if you hold down the mouse button (talking Powerbook) you don't get the right Click menu like Firefox 1.0 and 1.5? Any easy way to turn that back on? Me not so smart..
