Firefox 2 has been available since sometime last night (though you had to use a sneaky way of getting it, downloading it from Mozilla's FTP server. Such intrigue!) but now it is totally, completely officially available. For reals, as the kids say in just such circumstances.Go forth and download, for it is good (this post was written using Firefox 2, as a matter of fact).

If you're like me and have it highly customized so it seems more "mac-like" with extensions and themes - you might want to wait as Firefox 2.0 renders most of my extensions utterly useless.

Pete-
you were probably running one of the 2.0 Release Candidates, they have been downloadable for a while. This is the official release, and since I downloaded it "early" yesterday, I have been running it hard through its paces, and although a few of my favorite extensions are not available/compatible yet, I really like this update!
boza-- my Firefox has proved even more stable than it was before. No crashes for me yet. And NO spinning beachballs, like Safari, still, after all these years.

I've been using some optimized/tuned builds [mine for my intel system ElFurbe for PPC] for a few weeks now... well nearly a month now... full time and I've never had any issues. I tend to go lite on the plug-ins so I haven't noticed any issues... and in most cases new plug-ins should be out or out any day now.
But I shall make a few points:
1.) I'm not a "mac" like snob, yet my first computer was an Apple //[ and I've been exclusively been using Mac OS X since the 6.x days... and was one of the very first to switch to OS X full time (back in the Public Beta days) so I'm not switcher...
2.) If you want "mac" like wait till Firefox 3 (find a copy of Minefeild laying around) even better just snag Camino... and Camino 1.1 is based off the 1.8 branch so it will have all the gecko goodies Firefox2 brings to the table.

Mine crashed about 10 times during the course of the day. Too many spinning beach balls having to force quit.
I ended up rolling back

Looks nice, but has an annoying bug: if you have "always show tab" turned on, Command-W doesn't close a window with just one tab. I wonder if clearing my prefs would fix this. Twiddling a pref did fix another seeming bug.
The other thing for me is that it doesn't work with SessionSaver.

Morgan-
Firefox has been universal for some time now. I forgot which version added that, but it's been a while. I assume you could have downloaded it easily yourself to find that out.
Andy Lee-
SessionSaver functionality is built-in to Firefox 2.0. See preferences-->Main--> "When Firefox starts..."

Locks up on exit for me (window disappears, menu disappears, but dock shows it to still be running and force quit is the only option).
Might be an extension issue, but for now I'm back to 1.5

Or you can grab the Nightly Tester Tools extension and forcibly enable those extensions and skins. I've used it for some time on both my macs and pcs for when I use community builds that break extensions.

Just wanted to add: forcing extensions sometimes works fine, and sometimes they just refuse to properly function, it is still worth a shot, though, if you want to try and upgrade before everything is updated.

An update will be more welcome when the add ons are updated as well.

Thanks, ToeKnee!
The Command-W thing is still annoying, though.
Firefox also renders some MacUpdate pages badly -- like the one for Firefox: http://www.macupdate.com/info.php/id/10700. It puts a big blank space above the app description. This was true pre-2.0 as well.
I see there's now CaminoSession, which is supposedly like SessionSaver for Camino. I'll have to check that out -- it was one of the things keeping me from using Camino as my primary browser.

I'm on Mac 10.4.8 and I installed FF 2.0 yesterday. Everything is working well except a seeming problem with Flash. I can't view YouTube videos or most multimedia content on ESPN.com. I installed Flash 9 but it didn't make a difference.
Any ideas?
