Online retailer leaks MacBook Core 2 Duo, takes pre-orders
Macworld UK reports that play.com, an online retailer, has a pre-prder page up for the not-officially-announced MacBook Core 2 Duos. According to the listing, the 2GHz/512MB/80GB/DVD±RW/13.3" Widescreen Core 2 Duo MacBook will be available on Nov 13.What's your bet - is Play.com's pre-order page an intentional publicity generating fake, or an innocent publicity generating mistake?

Great points; play.com is not a reliable source and the specs/fact that it also slates the MBP for release next Monday marks it out as a mistake.
I think you'll be waiting a long time for a dedicated graphics card in the MB. Apple has had dedicated Graphics in every iBook and only dropped them for the Intel chipset machines.
Issues.....
1) Apple almost always releases/announces products on Tuesdays. The date of 13/11/06 on PLay.com's site is a Monday.
2) The Core 2 Duo MacBook Pro, released 2 weeks ago, not only got a new processor for the same price, but a faster speed processor. The current 2GHz CD should be a 2.13GHz C2D in the next MacBook.
3) Also, most revised Apple products get a boost in capabilites. Once again, we saw this a couple weeks ago with the MacBook Pro as it gained twice the RAM and additional HDD capacity the SAME price.
4) Notice the FSB listed on play.com's page: It's a 2MB L2 Cache, not the 4MB L2 cache of the Core 2 Duo.
- Even though the video card is more than adequate for external HDTV displays and most people's needs, there has been so much crying about it that I am expecting Apple to install a dedicated 64MB video card.
Not sure why its hard to see the difference. Higher res screen, better graphics card, higher RAM limit, backlight keyboard, FW800, different optical drive, etc.

I mean, if both laptops are Core 2 Duo, there's not gonna be much difference between the two laptops. Up until the C2D MacBook Pro's came out, I had trouble explaining to customers what exactly the difference between the two laptop is..
biscuit:
Sounds about right for the names, if anything this is probably one of the simpler naming schemes I've seen used. 'Core' [version] [core count] is consistent at least, some of the past naming schemes were a bit cryptic if you didn't know enough about the line.
As for the Macbook posting, well, it might be an error, maybe this entry was prepped for the announcement, but accidentally went live on the server. I'd say the title is a typo, but they typed 'Core 2 Duo 2GHz', I would think a misplaced 2 would read like 'Core 2 Duo GHz' instead.
I may be wrong but I don't think they sold macbook's before so the date me correspond to when they get their first stock. Regardless, I would never buy something like that from them. They're great for dvd's and cd's but they're not computer people at heart and as such you're not going to get a lot of choice and they could be wrong.
