BusinessWeek's iPhone wishlist

It's going to be so funny come macworld to see the reactions when Steve doesn't announce the iPhone. I hope they offer a live video stream.

1. OTA syncing: This will happen, but you will have to be a .mac member. One of the reasons 2-way syncing is on its way in.

2. Music downloads. Of course.

3. iChat video might be possible if they release a UMTS phone. Frankly if it is not a 3G phone I am not willing to spend over $50 on it as there are plenty of good 3G phones out there now.

4. Keyboard- that would be hot, but if they are going to do that they really should also put Blackberry Connect software. Despite BB e-mail being utter crap interface wise, it is necessary in the corporate market.

Things I want that might be in there:

1. Wi-fi: better than Bluetooth for syncing stuff

2. GPS for location based services. They might use tower triangulation instead. Also the recent iPhoto-Google announcements seem to indicate GPS and photo integration is coming

3. The whole two battery thing is retarded. I don't understand that at all. So I can drain my phone battery but still have MP3s? Why not just put a bigger battery in there and have a warning point set at 20 minutes of talk time. Or even just have an emergency reserve point where the device acts dead except for maybe one emergency phone call... Much more elegant than two batteries

BTW- they are definitely going to come with earbuds. Part of the goal is to expand the market and those white earbuds are part of the "image". I used to sell mine on eBay whenever I got a new iPod because they suck so bad...

I only have 2 items on my wish-list:

1. Seamless sync with Address Book, iTunes, iPhoto, iCal...AND, when connected to a Windows PC, Outlook. With Missing Sync, my Palm Treo 650 syncs flawlessly between the two, keeping 2 different Mac's and one PC in perfect harmony, despite using different applications.

2. The ability to add 3rd party apps (like the Treo.) The one app I use *all the time*, that I couldn't possibly live without, is my password keeper (I use Passwords Plus, which has a desktop client for both OSX and Win.)

Give me those two things and I'll ditch my Treo.

A slim device that syncs with mail, address book, i cal and itunes, all via Bluetooth. With a simple input interphase, maybe touch screen a la Treo. Thats it. Keep it small and simple. Too much apps and it ends catering to niche users that at the end complicate the device. I hardly use all the functions of my smart phone (SonyEricsson 910i) and I do not know 1 single person that uses all.
I think there is a market for simplicity.

Thoughtful? I agree with the article, but having iphoto, ichat, mail etc. synch with the phone is very obvious. He's not breaking any new ground. That's a no brainer.

A phone that syncs at least as well as my Nokia 6600 but with a much better ipod style interface and, of course, plays and syncs music like an ipod.

Thats all. Keep it simple and I am in.

Here's two crazy ideas thinking different...

1) The phone is actually just an ipod dock connector device similar to the Nike sport kit.

2) Make the battery the same size and shape as a nano then I can clip in my nano or use it separately.

I think it´s very important for Apple to release good headphones, simply because it´s free publicity!! when you are in the street and see a guy with an iPod, you don´t see the iPod, you see de white caracteristic airbuds!
So if Apple dont give us great quality headphones we just change them!

I totally agree with you, stainboy, but out of your mock list, I sure *would* like to see remote Mac interaction. :D

...and i want it to have a satellite radio tuner, and a 5 frigapixel camera, and HD video recording, and remote control of my Mac, and come with free Sennheiser headphones, and be able to play PS3 games....

how about NOT loading it with a bunch of crap.

here's my real wish list:
1. sync well with Address Book and iCal, via USB or Bluetooth
2. have an interface that is easy and intuitive
3. don't break after 6 months of normal use

none of the phones i've used or tried meet all three of those requests, and many don't meet ANY of them. trim the do-it-all crap down and GIVE ME A PHONE THAT JUST WORKS. thank you.

I don't want them to even call it an iPhone. I simply want the next iPod to do all these things since the iPhone is going to be taking on so many of the iPod's functions anyway.

Or maybe an iPod, iPod nano, iPod shuffle, iPod phone product range?
